I disagree that the U.S. is beyond repair - if Harris can win then it'll go the same way as here - the right will fracture after the Trump gamble, and the "reasonable" side will win out - and we'll be back to a fairly centrist round of elections in 4 years time. If Trump wins then I fear deeply on who comes next, and the power they might inherit
The right/the republican party is fractured already, loads hate Trump for obvious reasons but Trump has managed to get the free thinker neckbeard gang, the free thinker muscle bros and the critical theory single thinking man who may not have voted, or may have voted for the Libertarian parties
The left is probably the most fractured it's ever been(?), particularly with their supporting and active involvement in the current genocide
I think an issue here could be more republicans will vote blindly for their party than the possible democrats

"The left" is actually the most together it's been in recent memory, because there is such a clear and obvious opponent that is terrifying to any sane American. The Never Trumpers were thrown out of GOP and those still standing after 2016 and saw the light after his administration and the events leading up to and including Jan 6 has put even more moderates into "the left" as you call it

But right now the US is at its lowest ever ebb of serious politicians, why I don't know, but looking around it's worrying. You have a group of octogenarian fossils, and the younger generation seems vacuous at best

Anytime some sort of political “Pepsi challenge” is conducted where people are simply asked about policies without any attachment to candidates, people who are self-described staunch Republicans time and again side with Democratic policy proposals. Yet they would NEVER consider walking into a voting booth and casting a vote for someone with a D beside their name.
The 40% of the electorate that would never vote for a Republican are so far removed from anything the Republican Party is proposing at this point that there is exactly zero intersection between the circles on that Venn diagram, so of course they aren’t voting for them.
