Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

How about the 40% of the electorate who would never vote for a Republican no matter what their policies were?

Is that not programming also?
There were plenty of Dems who would vote Republican till the Trump era.
My father in law is a registered Dem but voted Bush Senior in 88 and Bush jnr in 04.
The Republican vilification of the left started in earnest in the mid 90's with Newt Gingrich and Murdock/Ailes.
The Democrats famously brought a library book to a gun fight.

Still cant get over you hating Thatcher but being all about the GOP.

I actually do agree with you @Pittsburgh Footy , no matter who wins i think the US is bordering on a permanently fractured society - if it's not already past that point.

I don't think Trump is the new Hitler - the comments he are quite frankly are laughable, but what he is without the hyperbole is bad enough - think by over egging it the genuine criticism gets almost lost.

Do I believe the insurrection was an actual coup attempt, no I don't, it's ridiculous to think a group of unarmed civilians can overthrow the US constitution by wandering around a building chanting some crap whilst Senators and Congressmen acted 'in fear of their lives' - did any of them so much as have their hair ruffled that day btw?

But either way Trump is not a good thing for the USA in any shape or form.

But.

Look at the Dems also, just because one side is patently bad does not automatically give the other a pass to acceptance as being good. The democrats are wrecking the constitution just as much as trump did if not moreso, they've gone after a former president in what amounts to a witch hunt using law fare and damn the constitution, the entire pushing of certain agendas which rhyme with joke is from the outside Orwellian in its doctrine. As is them believing that it's fine to have a none functioning president as a figure head whilst unelected officials rule the country.

In short yeah the US does look in a mess, because as a society it seems you've lost all sense of what it actually is.

Mate, I can't stand Trump, can't stand the vast majority of republicans either, hated Mccain with a passion, Graham is the creepiest little toad I've ever seen in politics, the host of GOP good old boys that trump appointed first term I disliked intently.

Not liking the democrats doesn't equate to liking the GOP.

Edit: oh yeah Taylor Greene I forgot to add is batshit crazy as well. Genuine danger if she ever ever gets any real power

Fair enough

I wholeheartedly disagree with you

So it's only programming when it's the people you don't agree with, ok mate, that sounds balanced.
There's a big difference between what Dems are talking about and Republicans are talking about.

It's apples and oranges.

You see it as a "both sides" issue.

I do not, sitting here in 2024. It used to be that way, in the pre-Trump era

We are no longer in that era

If you were an American in a swing state like Pennsylvania, who would you vote for?

Have to agree. It's not just a US problem and I recognize it's something a lot of western civilizations are having to wrestle with.

The reasons for this - the genie can't be put back into the bottle now and I don't know how we can reverse it

Since I live here and see it every day, with family, ex-friends, and acquaintances, constantly - I just don't see a way forward following this election. In many respects, our society is broken.

The thing is though that when you scrape away all the disinformation, the hatred, the fear- and hate-mongering you are left with the fact that the vast majority of people on both "sides" in essence believe the same thing - that the people in charge are screwing the rest of us, that they do not have our best interests at heart, that they both lie to and exploit us for their own ends and that all this has made us poorer as individuals and as a nation. This is why the people in charge have invested so much time, money and effort in creating these fake movements - to divide us amongst ourselves. Once enough people realise that, and its not that much of a leap to do so, the society ceases to be broken and things will get better.

What gives me real hope is that this effort of theirs is pretty global in scale, using the same people, themes, tactics and techniques - not just across the West, much the same thing is happening in Russia for example (rather than it being Russian led everywhere else) as well as India, Brazil, Israel and Iran and in many other places in all continents.

This similarity makes it far more likely that the counter to it (collective action between normal people) will go global as well, probably extremely quickly with global communications.

The false equivalency that exists in the "both sides" debate is nauseating

There's "balance" and there is whatever Trump and today's GOP is.

I stress - TODAY'S GOP

It's disgusting
Today's GOP?

Why do you think "today's GOP" is able to attract so much support from African Americans, Latinos, Arabs, Jewish, etc in such numbers that has never been seen before?

One of the better posts, sadly I do believe you overestimate the power of people's movements these days, most that seem that way are in fact instigated by external actors.

This is absolute nonsense.

Yeah, If Thatcher was alive and in no.10 today, you'd be a huge fan.
