Wrong mate, it’s not his fault - @LinekersLegs explained it brilliantly.

He’s not stubborn or proud, he actually doesn’t realise the mistakes he’s making and has probably already forgot he’s made them, even when people around him have told him about them.

The back and forth we used to have with my grandad after he’d just done something wrong/silly/dangerous, and he would swear blind it wasn’t him or call us liars - it’s heartbreaking.

The people around Biden are doing him a disservice and it’s cruel.

No way.

He is obviously and blatantly being stubborn. I understand his motivation - he doesn’t want to admit it to himself, and probably fears going rapidly downhill once he’s out of the job.

He is capable of carrying a news conference like he did last night, most of which was unremarkable and business-as-usual. As he is capable of doing that, he will clearly be capable of recognising the reality of the situation, especially as he gets questioned about it constantly and people in his own party are saying he should step aside.

Time of maximum danger approaching for Biden. If Dems really want him out they'll leak the Hur tapes. The tapes from which prosecutor Hur says Biden came over as so muddled & forgetful that a jury wouldn't convict him (even though, in Hur's opinion, Biden had committed the crime).

Perhaps thinking out of the box here, but would it currently be in the interest of the Republicans to oust him from his office, or is leaving him be, safer?

It would depend on whether a fragile Biden is more a threat to Trump than a new candidate, who may actually go up against him and revitalise the electorate.

Right now, Biden looks in the mire, so leaving him to sort his/their own noose may be worth it rather than letting them get behind someone new.
They've been arguing Biden is the sort of danger Trump is for four years straight, so that might be the sort of about-face that results in political whiplash. The Republicans could do it, though. As I said, there's no guarantee they vote to remove.

I clearly do not understand how the political system works in the US. How on earth can such a powerful nation end up having to elect a President who is either a convicted criminal or so old that they can’t compete a, probably scripted, sentence without making a major gaffe. Unbelievable 🤷‍♂️

Even worse the “cannot complete a, probably scripted, sentencr without making a major gaffe” could be leveled at both the major party candidates.

I’ve lived here for ~25 years now and still can’t figure out how we ended up at this point.

Incredible cowardice, career politicians don't fancy a head to head with herr trump because they'll likely lose. And that's them then done.
Hiding behind Biden for a second term because he's beat him once already.

Snivelling, self serving, sad, excuses for elected officials. Careerism first, not facing the greatest threat to us democracy. benedict arnold's every single one.

the Buggin's turn system has taken over for a start, and also senior people who fail do not have to deal with the consequences

A sitting president is all but impossible to unseat in a primary. Reagan couldn't do it to Ford, who became damaged goods the day he signed Nixon's pardon. Ted Kennedy couldn't do it to Carter. LBJ waved the white flag early after crushing defeats prompted by Vietnam. Truman didn't even try for a third term (the 22nd Amendment has a strangely worded Truman exception). His support was in the toilet due to Korea.

So Biden won the primary because he wasn't fighting a major war to a draw or losing one.

Trump has a cult of personality created by right wing media. Running against him in a primary is political suicide. Politicians don't do that. If they would, they're not politicians or won't be soon.

What's remarkable about this is that it is so unremarkable. Trump is constantly all over the place, incoherent and muddled.
