*puts on cynical head*
1) If the Dems script the eventual step down right they could ride the sympathy vote.
2) Any announcement with be when the markets are closed to give the spin doctors time to work.

It’s over for Biden. Might as well go the route of Orrin Hatch and walk away with your honor intact rather than stubbornly and selfishly grasping onto power to the very end like Dianne Feinstein
The issue, at least to me, is that he has—or is perceived to have—lost the dressing room, as they say. If his inner circle and his own party turn on him he is cooked. But this issue has been forced by large media conglomerates, rather than a thoughtful dissection of the consequences of a Trump vs Biden presidency: the two fates for this nation are not remotely the same. Ageism is piling up against Biden, while Trump’s constant confabulation, serial-lying, and treacherously concerning weave of fascist-sounding threats and meandering eddies of nonsense are taken as the new norm.

As a broken record, I’ll repeat, I don’t particularly care for Biden but there are two basic issues at hand: 1) Trump is 1000x worse, and 2) Biden’s hand has been recently forced, mostly due to a sustained media narrative that focuses on Biden’s age, forgetfulness, and tiredness, and ignores Biden’s record in office, his accomplishments, his appointment of competent advisors/cabinet who are not easily-dismissed cronies, and his record of public service—over and above Trump’s dangerously incompetent, self-serving greed and cowardice—a narrative of which many people, including some GOT members, have bought into.

She is such a spineless coward.
I am however very glad that the one time she did grow a spine was the “Obamacare” vote - Trump was so close to reversing all that. Ironic that it was largely due to spite that he wanted to overturn it in the first place and that it was largely due to spite that McCain was the critical 3rd vote (Collins, Murkowski the other two GOP)

….i just don’t want Trump to win, so for me it’s about giving the Democrats the best chance to achieve that. I’m not exactly sure what the answer is.

Nor do I. As I've previously mentioned, I'm far from an expert in US politics, so I am genuinely perplexed how Biden has ever become the forerunner in this.

I can somehow get Trump for the Republicans, because from afar the nonsense he spouts sits in perfectly with the often bizarre views of many republicans.

But where's the current appeal in Biden? Is it because it's not-the-done-thing to change after only one term? Is it because he's white and wealthy?

Is there too much division within democratic view points, and he's the only one they can compromise with? Surely you'd want the person with the best chance?

If he is, then US politics is even more broken and perverse than I already thought it to be.

She always seems to make these dramatic overtures about a key vote/appointment (e.g., Kavanaugh) before falling lock-step with the rest of the clan. But yeah, the ACA was a good vote for her. Her waffling angers me more than the usual morally corrupt self-interested GOP senators, who at least are predictably malevolent. Same goes for Manchin.

It's because no one in their right mind runs against a sitting president who isn't reeling, especially these days in the era of Citizen's United. He just buries a challenger in advertising, and to what end? All a run accomplishes is to weaken the president's chances in the general.

If you're Pat Buchanan, and sabotaging the non-evangelical wing of the party is the goal rather than winning, this makes sense. For a serious politician, it's line up behind the president, go next and spend four years building the biggest war chest possible.

The appeal of Biden is he was seen as the best candidate in the 2020 Dem primaries to beat Bernie Sanders. That's why he got the gig. The only other serious alternative was Elizabeth Warren. Since then Biden has the power of incumbency. Add in some shenanigans in the 2020 Dem primary and you have a candidate who won the vast majority of Dem delegates.

One reason Biden is still in the race is because the alternatives are viewed as worse. Though there is a whispering campaign to elevate Kamala Harris. Dem insiders keep repeating she has improved recently. Which isn't difficult because she was an absolute imbecile her first few years in office. If Biden drops out and Harris doesn't get the nomination there will be absolute carnage in the Dem party.
