In fact I wouldn’t be that surprised if we go through this, he fights on past the convention and makes everyone get behind him - and then doesn’t wake up one morning.

Neither would I but at least there is a clear choice (Harris), and a mechanism for changing election paperwork and transfer of campaign funds in that scenario.

There haven’t been many contested conventions but every one there has been has lead to that party losing the election with whatever candidate they chose.

Trump - short of being jailed - is beating Biden.

The American electorate aren't going to vote for a man just because he's not Trump. They know it's 4 more years in another presidential term and Biden is looking like he cant get to November never mind 2028.

Keep Biden get Trump. It really is as simple as that.

From the polling I've seen, even now, before getting a boost of being the candidate, a number of Democrats poll as well as Biden v Trump.

Tbh I am pretty panicked but also don’t think at this point that the realistic alternatives are much better!

He'd be going to prison because of breaking the law. And because of his actions following conviction - which if these actions were done by anyone other than Donald Trump, it would be a foregone conclusion that convict would have to spend some time in prison.

We should not lose sight of this.

This is the big problem that Biden has with the “existential threat to US democracy” pitch that they’ll push between now and November (if he stands) - that if they refuse to do the necessary then they can’t believe it is.

Him stepping down and saying how important it is would make that argument a lot stronger.

Have to believe this will make us all work harder to make the point this election isn't about the Dem candidate. It's about a stark raving lunatic, felon, sex pest, liar who was an objectively horrible POTUS who seeks to, again, take a black man's (former) job.

For me, it's that simple. Dems could run LBJ's unearthed skeleton for all I care as I'd rather a pile of bones be POTUS than Donald J. Trump.

And that Trump will lead on Gaza but not in a way that you'd like.

Yes, if Biden doesn't get in then the Gazans are at least no better off under Trump.

But...Biden is completely beholden to the Israeli lobby on Capitol Hill, and although other Democrats are probably in thrall to them too, a new Democratic POTUS could begin to put their own stamp on the region and recalibrate on that conflict.

That would be my hope.

He, unlike you, would appreciate that a white male leapfrogging over the first black female VP to grap the candicacy would have significant electoral risks.

Yes, but you were telling me all that before Genocide Joe's meltdown last week. Since then senior Democrats and the Democratic Party commentariat have grasped the nettle on this and it's looking more of a possibility.

In short, what I've said on here has legs. Yes, you might have wanted a candidate change but your mind seems to be closed off to it now that minds are now focussed on making it a reality.
