I mean Trump has said he will round up the muslims and ship them out the country, but yeah, they will stay at home and risk that happening due to something happening across the globe.


But Trump told about 1,500 people in suburban Des Moines that if he wins a second term, the US would no longer allow what he called “dangerous lunatics, haters, bigots and maniacs to get residency in our country”.

“If you empathize with radical Islamic terrorists and extremists, you’re disqualified,” he said. “If you want to abolish the state of Israel, you’re disqualified. If you support Hamas or any ideology that’s having to do with that or any of the other really sick thoughts that go through people’s minds – very dangerous thoughts – you’re disqualified.”

That's very concerning for Democrats then.

I know they're all Pollyanna at the moment believing the criminal charges against Trump will swing undecideds their way, but it looks to me like they're trying to convince themselves.

If so, you're way off the mark.
There is a hope that the conviction will swing independents but thats not unrealistic. I mean Trump is a fellon who cant even vote in the election.
But there are plenty of reasons for Democrats not to be optimistic.
Everyone can see that Biden is old, too old.
The war in Gaza is not going away and he's being bullied by Bibi.
The looming threat of the closure of Tiktok is lurking in the background.
There are a lot of independents who arent happy about student debt being cleared while they cleared their debts.
Younger people cant get on the property ladder because the feds wont budge on rates.
The high rates are having a huge effect on the cost of car and health insurance.
Very few of the infrastructure bill benefits are tangible or visible.

But none of the stuff above (with the exception of age) changes with a new democratic pick.
Biden did very well at the SOTU address. Here's hoping he does equally as well on Thursday.

IIRC didn't Newsom come out backing a ceasefire early on in the year and generally has a better status among Muslim Americans than Biden. Presumably he'd have some effect in stopping a couple of battleground states on a knife edge over the issue from going to Trump?

Yeah agreed. Seems to be some excuses being made by Trump camp, eg the moderators are biased, etc.

We just need Obama to say he could do a debate on short-notice with no preparation and win! Trump would show up quicker than one of this late payments to his creditors for one of his bankrupted businesses.

Dave, you're fixated on the war as if it's the be all and end all.
There isn't a thing Newsom would do different to Biden. There isnt a thing any democratic front runner would do. Sanders speaks loudly against the war but isnt a member of the party.
Then there's the tens of thousands of voters in Michigan who know little to nothing about Newsom, and why would they, he's the governor of a state over a thousand miles away.
Hows that going to help to beat Trump.
Biden has a problem with the Muslim population in Michigan but it's the same problem any establishment Democrat would have.
He just has to hope that enough people realize that the prospect of Trump is way worse for the Palestinians.
