Good grief.

Did you watch the actual video?

Scraping the bottom of the barrel already, by the looks of it
I did, hence the lol.

But on a slighlty serious note Bernie would be wise to be a tad more careful with his words. It would have been incredibly easy for him to say exactly the same “I will give very serious consideration to that” for the second question as he did for the first and then follow up with a “However it is silly and premature to talk about any characteristics of what I’d be looking for in a running mate” to avoid such an easy opportunity for mischaracterization.

If one is inclined to interpret this clip as uncharitably as is realistically possible, it is still no more than vaguely clumsy at most.

The clip you posted from Austin, where Sanders did not address the question, did not indicate how he would solve the problem, and made the answer all about himself, was a much more serious gaffe, though still mostly in terms of optics rather than substance. It has (predictably) already been forgotten.

Every single one of the candidates spends nearly every minute of every day on camera, subject to the scrutiny of thousands of people desperate to pounce on each and every minor phrasing error in order to sell clicks or briefly gain the attention of people online all day with nothing better to do.

In truth (and no offence intended, by the way! - I appreciate most of your links) almost every instance of this sort of thing is frivolous and superficial, and will not withstand a 24 minute news cycle, led alone 24 hours.

I think it would be catastrophic in the long term if he got his hands anywhere near the nomination, but when Buttigieg apparently said 'all lives matter', I didn't immediately take to twitter to claim vindication and umbrage, because he obviously did not mean it the same context that Jordan Peterson would, and because he won't say it again. It's cheap, silly 'gotcha' tactics, and it contributes to the general disgust with politics and the media the world over.

We are about to be bombarded with this all over again, from all directions, and it would do us all well to separate the wheat from the chaff.

If 2016 has taught us nothing else, it is that conventional corporate media is far less able than ever to choreograph our opinions and our outrage.

Steve, you're a nice lad, and I'm sure you mean well - so please try to be a bit more discerning about the rubbish that you read and recite here.

We can all disagree, but let's at least still attempt a vaguely reality-based conversation.

Sanders' continued allegiance to the Democratic Party is the only reason why it remains a viable political institution.

If he left and ran as an independent, you boys would never remotely sniff power again.

He is doing the Party a tremendous favour by still enduring its nonsense.

And as for 'badmouthing' the Party: during the 2016 Primary, he famously refrained from personal attacks, save those of relevance to policy, like Hillary's Goldman Sachs performances.

During the debate, he famously refused to discuss her almost-certainly illegal destruction of thousands of emails of public interest - a perfectly legitimate issue to raise, and one for which she was, accordingly, completely ill-prepared for during the general election.

And, after the DNC tipped the scales so blatantly in Hillary's favour that the chair was in effect fired for it, he nonetheless campaigned tirelessly for her (far more effectively than she herself could manage) without so much as a peep in protest.

Now, if you have a substantive critique that you'd like to share, in the manner that @LinekersLegs sometimes provides, then by all means - fire away.

But please, think it over before regurgitating nonsense like that.

You can do better.

Oh look, a patronizing response, how typical. You get way too serious and defensive about Sanders.

I'm sorry but you are a hypocrite. Most of what you post about Sanders are from pro socialist publications and in fairness you are biased when it comes to him.

I could obviously post the sources where i get my information but what would be the point you have already made up your mind on who you support and to the extend of conversation by most of the us here.

As for your take on Sanders we shall see.

Also don't be fooled into thinking i love the democratic party. I think thay have many flaws and are disjointed and Sanders certainly doesn't help. I voted clinton purely because she wasn't trump. Would i have voted Sanders probably if he was the candidate.

Not sure where you live or what people say on the ground there but just like @Ruairi77 pointed out many don't support sanders where he is as for here in California its the same. We cannot teust polls as we found out in the last one.

Who off the others would I pick? i dont know at this point its way too early and there are too many off them.

But go ahead and continue with the condescension and assumptions

Sorry @abelard fidn’t mean to post a blank reply, got a phone call midway through composition and pressed enter by mistake!

I mostly agree with your points and would add that given who the current president is and the speed of the news cycle these days that these sort of gaffes probably have less impact than they did in previous campagins.

But I still think that they can cumulatively impact perceptions of candidates and the campaigns are wise to work the kinks out of their communications (particularly with such obvious questions) early while there are fewer people paying attention than say do it in the debate stage.

Not quite the same style gaffe but still wince at this that put paid to Rick Perry’s campaign and I don’t even like Rick Perry lol

It's just like with Corbyn, where the mere act of correcting falsehoods (as I did with your post) is seen taken as blind, cultish devotion.

I normally don't go after you, as you're a bit like the Joey66 of American politics and it just seems cruel, but when you go accusing me of veganist tactics, then the gloves come off!

I will admit to gloating a bit when that happened ; )

But yet you continue to throw out insults making fecking stupid comparisons which quite frankly couldn't be more wrong. All you did was get petty and insult two people one who wasnt even involved and he wont be happy you didnt tag him properly

Also see how one sided you are when it comes to Sanders that you took two general statements by two different people personally. I never called you vegan like. That was a general statement. If you felt that i was then maybe it proves our point about Sanders supporters all of them. Get upset when people dont like him and dish out criticism.

Do you genuinely not see that as a remarkably one sided way of looking at the situation?

Still a lot about name recognition at this point, the debates will make a huge difference, but found it interesting that Biden seems to be taking support from all the candidates and the Mayor Pete boomlet appears to be fading.

I mean.... highlight the bits that aren't true.

I am not saying that Sanders running as an indepedent would be a good thing, but it is mainstream Democrats fantasizing about booting him out of the Party, not vice versa, and I thought it might be helpful for young Steve to think it through a bit more carefully.

Someone genuinely thought building that site was a good use of their free time.

The world is ****ed

I mean... highlight the bits that aren't true :P
