Although of course that a) could well hide some uncomfortable biases

For sure. But, pragmatically speaking, you have to play the game to win. I think the Democrats would take winning with an imperfect candidate over taking a principled stand against latent discrimination and potentially seeing Trump win a second term.

Also, if we're both hinting subtly at a bias against women (and I think we are), that may not be the case either. I reckon if AOC was old enough to be eligible, she'd be a shoe-in.

she's 29, POTUS has to be over 35

i didn't know that, i suppose its fair dos, gives Cortez some more time to prove herself as she might just be a flash in the pan. Isn't there anyone somewhere between Sanders & Cortez age-wise with their politics?

Warren is about 10 years younger than Sanders :)
Ayanna Presley would be about in the middle age wise but like AOC, shes just new to congress.

Warren's pre-occupation with her fraction-percent Native-American heritage has ruined her chances. She's out, unfortunately. Will check out Presley, don't know anything about her.

No he didn’t. He amused 2/3. No one took him seriously. People are actually scared of AOC.

My impression is it's the other way around. People were/are terrified of Trump. Actual scared, even before his win. The Cortez posts I've seen from conservative types have been mostly amusement at her words and salivating at her good looks.

Unfortunately for warren, it’s her opponents that are pre occupied with her heritage, not her but I agree, could be hard to come back from which is a shame as she’s the only one with serious well thought out policies. Presley’s not running.

People didn’t take trump seriously. The concensus was that he’d move to the center after he won. The fear came when he failed to move. Trust me. Conservatives are terrified of AOC. It might be veiled in humor but it’s real

i agree, i also like Warren's policies. But yeah, that whole episode just showed a lack of judgement, which in todays' post-Trumpian world shouldn't mean much but there you go. I won't bother checking out Presley then, just interested in realistic 2020 Dem candidates.

As you know I don't live in USA so my perspective is only limited to a few ammie friends, plenty of assorted European lefty types and tons of online news/comment consumption. But from my perspective about two-thirds of the commentariat were genuinely afraid of a Trump presidency during his run, and doubly-so after he won. You only have to see those youtube montages of shocked reactions from liberal anchors to see the fear.

Re: Cortez, I honestly don't see that fear. And if she's too young to run in 2020, and possibly too young in 2024 too, then there's even less grounds to be 'terrified' of her.

We'll have to agree to disagree, tho' happy to give you the floor on this one as you live there.

The only progressive candidates are sanders, warren, and maybe gabbard.
Pete Buttigieg is an interesting outsider. Might be considered progressive.
