Why do you think the tories don't want a private health care system? Do you believe they naturally have socialist democratic leanings when it comes to health? Do you not think that they would prefer a smaller state, lower taxes and compulsory private insurance?

There is a private health care system anyrate. Rightly or wrongly, personally, not arsed.

As to compulsory private health insurance, what? Its called Tax and National Insurance.

They deffo prefer a smaller state and lower taxes mind. I am ok with that, personally. Less folk telling me what to do.

And to pop a popular bubble, I know, from the horses mouth, nearly, that the Tories do not want to privatise the NHS. They would like to spend less money on it, but would be happy if others stepped into the arena to help with that.

That is a contradiction... Others "stepping into the arena" to help them spend less money on it = privatisation, surely? Also, who is this horse who speaks on behalf of all Tories?

No, it doesnt mean "Privatisation". It means letting the NHS getting on with what they do best, and allowing private companies to do the grunt work.

And as for the horse. You wouldnt believe me anyrate. @Bruce Wayne

Nope - privatisation is the transfer of a state-owned business/service into private ownership, and crucially, control. The day the government no longer funds or runs the NHS, it'll be privatised.

It won't happen though, like @roydo I can attest that all the Tories I know seem to be pretty supportive of the NHS. Obviously, they're all hideously rich and uncaring, but still, the point stands.

Privatisation also means outsourcing services to private companies, which I assume is what Roydo was getting at.

Anyway, not to argue semantics. The point is that that it is clear the trend is towards reducing the burden of the tax payer by putting more and more of the NHS in the hands of private companies, one way of another. I think that's quite a dangerous trend, personally.

Where do you pick up a prescription?

Do you want NHS staff cleaning hospitals?

Do you think the NHS invents new drugs?

Who do they buy their surgical equipment from?

I honestly cant see the problem.

Which is what used to happen.

Hence my insight.

That's not technically privatisation because the private companies are just providing a service to/or on behalf of the NHS, they don't have any ownership or control of the NHS.

Personally I'm pretty ambivalent on the whole subject. If politicians spent more time discussing how to improve results in the NHS, rather than letting their ideologies cloud their judgment, the NHS would probably be in a much better state than it is now.

The Tories believe in 'small state' but big tax payers money to private companies. There has been more and more tax payers money going into private companies in health, education, railways even public subsidies for Nuclear power. It is a myth that there is no state intervention in the market. There has never been greater intervention of tax payers money. If there was no tax payers money available these private companies wouldn't build hospitals/schools/railway lines from scratch and charge for their use and they would get more and more customers. BUPA would be dead on its feet if it wasn't for NHS work. The same with schools and the railways.
There is no coincidence that more and more money is spent on the NHS/education/railways and the 'service' is worse. The Tories and their friends see the tax payer as a cash cow and one of the reasons they are for the NHS. Same as they are for Nuclear Power and fracking. If those fracking had to invest in their own national grid to provide energy they wouldn't bother. Same with Hinkley point without tax payers money it wouldn't get built.

Far more NHS contracts going to private firms than ministers admit ...

Surge in privatisation threatening free NHS treatment, unions say ...

How the myth cropped up that the Tories make better use of our money I'll never know. .

This is the problem with Corbyn's socialist Utopia. Why not make it 50 days holiday a year? And why not bump up the min wage to £50/hr? If more is always better then lets just go the whole hog.

Erm, I think he's looking at what is actually really quite possible, especially with reference to what already happens on continental Europe.

On the NHS issue my local GP surgery used to be managed by a private company but any profits had to be put back into the surgery.

Now it is run by another private company who is allowed to keep any profits themselves.

There was a big campaign of patients to stop this but it was ignored and the change carried out...

Their friends in the media never really take them to task so they get a free reign so they can carry on with the 'myth'.

"Humbert Wolfe's epigram from The Uncelestial City continues to be widely known and quoted:
You cannot hope
to bribe or twist,
thank God! the
British journalist.
But, seeing what
the man will do
unbribed, there's
no occasion to.[3]
