Things work differently over here than to mainland Britain, by that I mean both Sinn Fein and the DUP have been involved in recent scandals that would sink a party on the mainland. Sinn Fein have seen their party leader spend time in custody whilst questioned over his IRA role decades ago as well as having to fend off questions over his brothers arrest on child abuse allegations. The DUP themselves have seen trouble with scandals such as the Iris Robinson affair namma and rhi scandals. All these and they still top the polls they are virtually bullet proof. The DUP in particular are very good at scaremongering a significant number of there target voters to the polls in order to keep their nationalist opponents out.
Northern Ireland is still a divided place and the two main parties are good at exploiting this.

Eight and a bit days until negotiations start, which probably means the weekend for them to work out Gove is the only option, a day to announce it, and a couple of days for him to form a Government and then settle in for a bit. Next weekend off and then he starts negotiations as a minority government.

The Tory Grandees, who told her to have an election to take advantage of the 'unelectable' one and divisions in the Labour party, will be meeting tonight and tomorrow to decide her fate. The Tory rank and file and MPs are seething. Add to the mix those that lost their nice little earner as MPs and the knives are really out. They should pug the poor woman out of her agony. If it was a horse they would put it to pasture to run through a wheat field.

Just been on to Belfast - Steve's Mum. Quite depressing really. No answer to closing to a free market of 500m people tariff free. But loads about getting out of EU which lets terrorists in. I love her dearly but she summarises Brexit and the mentality that has put UK where you are.

Sorry to say this but UK and May; USA and Trump......isolationist policies

In other words, what's the point of us voting if we can't be involved in government? .

How about the media ask SF why they don't bother turning up to represent their constituents/oppose the tories? Then this arrangement would be meaningless.

Not turning up means you aren't involved in Government. Being in an effective coalition with the government means that you are.

Sitting in Westminster wouldn't contravene the GFA. An agreement to prop up a Tory government for political capital would appear to though.
