The faux outrage against the NI parties from the trendy lefties in metropolitan England is just bizarre. They clearly don't understand that it's just different here, like a completely other world. Not saying that's good cause it ain't, but it's a rural, quiet, socially conservative, religious area. It's nothing like metropolitan cities in the mainland. If you've a dozen houses, a pub, and a petrol station then you're a small town here lol

The parties here are simply reflective of the views of voters. It's just the way it is sadly. I don't see it changing soon. Different culture, different lifestyle, just a much different, smaller world.

Tim, you are feeding that misinformation.

Ulster Resistance led by Paisley and Robinson. Leading Terrorists on the street.

DUP's George Seawright advocating "incinerating Catholics".

DUP's Willie McCrea sharing a platform with and idolising multiple Catholic murderer Billy Wright.

UVF terrorist David Irvine said he was in DUP leaders' houses and they tried to dissuade a Loyalist ceasefire.

Google it yourself Tim and read historical record.

As I've said mate, there's just a scarily high amount of real lowlifes floating about here. Lots of associations and links which I'm not comfortable with, and obviously there's issues with certain unionist people over the years. None of those things listed are acceptable from politicians. And quite frankly I can't vote for DUP for a lot of these reasons. I had to plump for a total no hoper instead yesterday.

It's not misinformation tho to say that DUP are not linked directly to paramilitaries. Whereas SF clearly are linked directly to the IRA. That's the point I'm making. The DUP 100% guilty of being associated with a lot of disgusting things. No evidence of any of their leadership being involved directly in terror.

I didn't live through most of what happened and I suppose I was lucky. But if my impressions are wrong on issues then I apologise and you obviously had the first hand perspective I don't.

Yes mate....believe me I know. One of my best mates is from East Belfast for 30 years. Steve is a left winger....I haven't had the chance to discuss this arrangement but I guess he will be fed up but his Ma will be thrilled...

And their voters share the same wants, hopes and aspirations as those on the 'other side' and those on the mainland. Not so different. Many younger members of my family in Belfast will openly admit that SF have the best policies for working people like them but would not vote for them. Many of the conservative views espoused by the DUP gets laughed at by even some of those that vote for them. I have detected that there is a growing 'tolerance' on social issues amongst many people in the Unionist community. You only have to witness the work the GAWA have done and bow people have responded to see there is a bit of a sea change going on.

Tim mate, my point is that that both our main parties are "inextricably linked" to paramilitaries. History will call it though.

And for context, I'm not that old that I remember the heap :)

Ruth Davidson has hinted she wont accept a deal with the DUP.

Oh and Sinn Fein have said the Tories are in breach of the Good friday agreement by doing a deal with the DUP
A Tory deal with the DUP would wipe the Tories out again in Scotland. SF are correct, not allowed to show any favour to one party. The DUP are hostile to the Good Friday Agreement, so woudn't be too bothered for it to collapse and direct rule brought back. These Tories haven't a clue what's in the Good Friday Agreement as they are too stupid and up their own backsides to pay much attention of what is around them.

This Tory/DUP pact may never get off the ground.

Hard to know tbh. Nesbitt (UUP) put forward a very liberal unionist message at the last assembly election but did so bad he had to resign. If I understood how and why people vote here I'd be a rich man lol

Don't get me wrong, this place is a heck of a lot better than 40 years ago. A safe, welcoming place to live. It's hard to explain, it's just different than city life on the mainland. Complex i think is the word. You know the area so I hope you get what I mean lol
