er - the bit you emboldened there apparently happened this weekend. She was given the Shadow Home Secretary brief last year.

And she wouldn't be shadow Home Sec if Corbyn believed her to be incompetent and/or she was going against the direct wishes of the leadership.

It's grasping for straws because you can't justify Corbyn allowing her to continue.

The thing is, I'm not sure it's even presentational skills that are the problem. I couldn't care less if she comes across dull or a bit eccentric, but she seems to lack basic knowledge of her field. In the LBC interview she didn't know the details of a key policy on her patch, whilst the recent Sky interview suggests she had equally poor knowledge of a key policy paper in her area. Not having that knowledge is bad enough, but to then try and bluff your way out of both situations makes her look not only clueless but untrustworthy.

It's bad enough that she creates this impression in front of the electorate, but imagine you're a civil servant in the Home Office and she's your minister when you wake up on Friday.

Knowing a sufficient amount of what you are talking about is a presentational skill, but you are right. As I said above I'd be absolutely amazed if, after a Labour win, she ends up as Home Secretary.

Tubey - I am not saying Corbyn believed her incompetent or that she would go against the direct wishes of the leadership when he appointed her.

I am saying that if its true she ignored direct instructions not to do interviews and went ahead and arranged them anyway, she won't be Home Secretary if they win.

This absolutely does happen, I was guilty of it myself and plenty of my mates were the same .

A few years laters and we're all mature enough to make a decision on what we think would be best for us/the country. From personal experience, it's very difficult for your average 18/19 year old to make this type of decision without going along with how their parents vote
I don't see why mate. Maybe I was lucky but I was brought up to be politically aware and had my own views from quite an early age but then maybe that's just me. I just don't see how when you reach the age of 18 (and are therefore a fully grown adult) you can't have enough knowledge to even have a slight idea on how you should vote.

And, again, if she ignored direct instructions, she wouldn't have that brief as we talk here right now. It's as simple as that. The fact she does means Corbyn has faith in her - and people can't defend Corbyn for that, so they look desperately everywhere for any other reason Diane Abbott exists in the higher echelons of the current Labour party.

Sacking her two days before a General Election would probably cause more damage than keeping her in post would, though he would have been left with no option if she kept doing these interviews. As for the rest of your post, it would perhaps be beneficial for you to note that when Corbyn had a larger pool to select Shadow Ministers from, she was not given the post of Shadow Home Secretary - she was given the Health role, which was only a slight promotion from the job (Shadow Minister for Public Health) she did under Miliband; its only the refusal of the PLP to serve in his Cabinet and Burnham leaving to be Mayor that promoted her.

In any case, she has been pulled from the Evening Standard hustings as well now.

I didn't pay enough attention to politics to make an informed decision because they all wound me up so I just didn't. I've paid more and more attention to it as I got older
