Think some were suggesting this happened cos of police funding.

It could be argued that it did.

A former senior investigating officer for the Met gave an interview today in which he pointed out that cuts to front line policing have had a significant impact on community intelligence gathering which is the kind of action that allows the police to monitor people on the terror watch list.

People are utterly naive if they can't see policing cuts as being a part of the issue.

How come they pumped 50 bullets into 3 blokes, 8 minutes after they were alerted then?

There are no cuts to intelligence, which was the weak link. Not the police response.

Not saying everything is fine and dandy, just get irritated when folk try to make a political point when one isnt really there.

While this is true, I do think intelligence is underfunded, not the police.

Still, intelligence has been underfunded for decades, so to try and blame it on one party is just mental.

How does the armed police response prove that community policing hasn't suffered ?

To be fair, that wasnt the point being pressed. It was that police cuts contributed to the attack.

They didnt.

But how do you know they didn't ?

The logic is clear that if police numbers are cut and therefore the police cannot be as thorough in looking at suspect or dangerous people in the community, which is being argued by senior people in the forces, then you risk people like the attackers slipping through the net.

'Intelligence' relies heavily on regular police following up on calls from the public.

They'd be stupid to do so, given the counter is Corbyn doesn't believe in shoot to kill. I suppose his approach would have been to talk nicely to the people stabbing innocent civilians yesterday and ask them politely to stop.

Labour should avoid issues of national security like the plague. It is by far and away Corbyn's biggest Achilles Heel.
Aye aye here's field Marshall tubey

Intelligence officers is what we need tho. Our coppers showed they are an exceptional outfit last night. We need to focus on prevention now.

I dont "know" they didnt.

But I didnt make the swinging assumption they did, ergo, folk making a political point that police cuts led to this, when the police were there and cleared in 8 minutes is just plain wrong, and seeking to make political capital out of it.

Call me utterly naive then, because policing cuts were no part of the issue.
