The only way care is sustainable in the future is compulsory pension contributions for absolutely everyone, other than students under 18. And part of your pension is held over, can't be touched, and is solely for care. Make this element say 1% of monthly income. It would leave your pay without income tax or NIC being taken, but it's put past for your social care, post say 70. Rainy day money basically, and people would have to be forced to pay into it. This culture of no one putting any money past has to end, this culture of the young not putting into a pension has to stop.

Now I'm no legislator and have thought this policy through completely off the cuff so I'd say it's absolute guff. But I think we need to put some kind of emphasis on saving. Having a large pot of money for your elderly care built up over a 45 year working life is surely more humane than the government telling you your house is going up for sale?

Pensions innit. Tax relief too. Get one.

For me it's an odd manifesto, almost transitional in nature that signals that it's the end of the baby boomers dominance on proceedings.

There's not a lot of meat on the bones it has to be said. Agree with companies being forced to pay more to bring in foreign labour (especially if it is going into training programs) also agree with means testing winter fuel payment.

It's almost business as usual.

Thats been in place for about 5 years mate.

Yeah, you can.

But the company has to provide a scheme, if you opt out, then fine.

The other compulsory pension is of course, NI.

We can't all have the attitude that it's up to the government to keep us from cradle to grave. It's not sustainable really. I think creating a culture of saving more money is needed, some kind of elderly care pension pot makes sense.

Well maybe, yeah. The point I was making earlier was that the demographics we currently endure/enjoy, will soon level out. And return the normal balance between young, worker, and elderly that has been perfectly sustainable for years before.

Elderly care will be a steadily reducing bill the country will face, very soon.

I find it strange how taxes being as 'low as possible' is a seen as a good thing. The Tory manifesto doesn't even try to explain how it's a good thing, it just basically says we should all pay less tax.

What's good about sucking money out of public services for little personal gain?

TV leaders debates are a real waste of time. Vote locally on who is your best candidate to represent you and those around you. Forget about the media circus. I'm glad the 2 main leaders jibbed them off.

sooner get taxed more and ring fence it for the NHS/ training and education , myself not remotely bothered being a couple of quid better of in one hand, then having it taken out of another national insurance ect.
