The only way care is sustainable in the future is compulsory pension contributions for absolutely everyone, other than students under 18. And part of your pension is held over, can't be touched, and is solely for care. Make this element say 1% of monthly income. It would leave your pay without income tax or NIC being taken, but it's put past for your social care, post say 70. Rainy day money basically, and people would have to be forced to pay into it. This culture of no one putting any money past has to end, this culture of the young not putting into a pension has to stop.
Now I'm no legislator and have thought this policy through completely off the cuff so I'd say it's absolute guff. But I think we need to put some kind of emphasis on saving. Having a large pot of money for your elderly care built up over a 45 year working life is surely more humane than the government telling you your house is going up for sale?
Pensions innit. Tax relief too. Get one.
