We can't fund public sector at the current level for pensions and pay reasonable level of state pension too. The welfare system wasn't designed for these demographics.

I don't accept that, mate. But it would need radical change of everything to do with the current economic model

But... but... Labour won the key marginal contests in Liverpool and Manchester...

Not just in 'key marginals' but run the Tories close in other 'key marginals'

Votes Labour Tory Electorate

Manchester Labour won 359 000 128 000 1 980 000

Liverpool Labour won 171 000 58 000 1 116 000

Doncaster Labour won 32 000 13 000 180 000

North Tyneside labour won. 29 000 16 000 150 000

Cambridge Tories won 37 000 76 000 608 000

Teeside Tories won 39 000 40 000 486 000

West Midlands Tories won 210 000 216 000 1 961 000

West of England Tories won 43 000 53 000 670 000

Labour 860 000 Tory 600 000 Electorate 7 000 000

That is nearly 20% of the English electorate. Not quite the picture the state controlled BBC would like to portray.

That's only one of the issues I raised. What about tax on low earnings. The personal allowance is double what it was under labour. The min wage will soon be double.

Also trade unions have no interest to me tbh. I've never thought about letting someone who I don't like and who is only in it for their own end represent me. Why force me to join, can my professional body not represent me already?

Agree zero hours aren't great. Although suited me to the ground when I was at uni. Exams came and I took 2 weeks off. Outright ban not the answer.

Also public sector pay and pensions need checked. They are grossly unfair and disproportionate to people doing same job in private sector.
Sorry but I have to disagree with you on a few points:

1. Having been a trade union rep for over 13 years I can assure you no trade union rep who is any good is "in it for themselves" that is so plainly wrong its untrue
2. Also public sector pay and pensions, I am a public sector worker, my pay has been frozen or only increased by 1% for the last 6 years or so, while the politicians have had a 10% payrise or more!.
3. My pension isnt that great, I pay a lot of my wages towards it, dont believe all you read in the papers about them being gold plated, they are not.

Nothing worse than people complaining about the pensions of others and wanting them brought down. Race to the bottom. Classic Tory tactic.

Ah yes, Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster & North Tyneside are indeed key marginals...

I wasn't massively sure what he was getting at there either.

It's also a bit of a nonsense to talk about the "state controlled BBC picture" when these are, er, returned polling figures that anyone can access and a true representation of the vote last night.

I've not checked but if it is true that a Cons candidate finished second to Steve Rotheram then that's a dreadful indicator of where the election is going

Think he was being sarcastic to be fair (I hope he was anyway...)

He once said we should keep Martinez because "the people of Hull say we play great football", so it's sometimes a little difficult to be certain

Off topic. Go to the Martinez thread if you want to talk about Martinez.

It seems you haven't got anything to say on the matter about Labour getting 860 000 votes and are not put off Corbyn.

Corbyn is having a celebratory rally in Manchester right now and the his victorious candidate hasn't even bothered to show up. That just sums up the Labour party right now.
