£165,600,000 versus £83,000,000 The real reason the derby is uncompetitive

The above figures are the respective wage bills at Liverpool and Everton. Their wage bill is almost exactly twice as big as ours. Ours is a couple of million bigger than West Ham and Stoke.

Do we expect Stoke to win at a club paying almost £166 million annually? No. Why expect it of Everton?

We fondly cling to the idea that the two Merseyside clubs are equals in stature and importance. They're not. Liverpool are a far bigger and better resourced outfit than we are and tough though it is for us to admit it they will remain so. We need to stop obsessing about them and start to accept reality.
Tell that to Wolves,Swansea Bournemouth etc fans

The fact he's a regular international footballer when fit baffles me even more mate

A friend in work who's a red said apparently he might have to retire early because of his heel injury. Apparently it's gone and won't be the same ever again. Sad if true like, you never want to see anyone have to end their career early regardless of who he plays for

Looking at what's left on my mortgage and it's the same as he gets paid a week. I may pay it off in 10 years if I'm savvy and keep my job.
Absolutely gutted for him.

If money's what you hold most dear then you would be. He's still a lad living out his dream and possibly having it snatched from him early. Life isn't just about money mate

I'm not saying its he only issue but it is a huge elephant in the room which we tend to avoid when analysing the performance of our team as against them.

I agree we have a hang up about them. Tell truth I couldn't watch yesterday because I just knew what would happen. its like Groundhog Day.

However the strength and depth that a vastly bigger wage bill can buy does impact. EG Man U have regularly outspent the RS in he past 25 years and have regularly beaten them. It is a huge indicator of how a rivalry will go.

We were without first teamers today and it showed?

So to recap; When a team with a bigger wage bill, which in real terms might mean 'better' players, beats another it's to be expected due to the wage bill/better players

What 'we' have to find out why the 'k, the team with a smaller wage bill/poorer players, beats FC big wage...That reason or reasons then found will then show your 'big wage' argument is total radishes.

short version; there maybe more to it than mere money.

No mate, I'd say it has been true. You can't look at their teams with Mascarano, Alonso, Torres, Suarez etc in them and whoever else over the years and not tell me you can't see where the extra wages they paid went when we had players like Mcdadden, Simon Davies, Andy Johnson. You get what you pay for. It's just it doesn't really mean anything now with the overlap of players contracts between the tv deal coming in and our new board

No it's not. But he's living his dream and getting paid a kings ransom for it. Get off your high horse.
There are are also kids rumaging through landfill in India looking for scrap metal and plastic to sell on so as to feed themselves and their families, save your bleeding heart for the those poor buggers yer daft melt.

So what if he gets paid a fortune. I'm not on a high horse, I just don't really care that much about money. All because there's a wrong somewhere in the world that's undoubtedly horrible doesn't mean any lesser event is not bad in its own merits. Otherwise why are people in here crying about loosing a game of football yesterday and you not pulling them about some wedding being drone striked and 40 people including kids and old people being smoked because a government thought it was a training camp? Sorry mate, didn't realise you were the moral compass of this forum

I don't have to be, you're doing a grand job all by yourself. Can you see us from up there?
