Leighton Baines

Santon is the biggest footy manager shout going.

If we're honest very very few of us have paid any attention to up and coming full backs, and we can only go off rep. Izaguirre from Celtic or the young lad at Swansea are the only two I know of.

I don't even really know why I like Santon but for some reason I think he would be a good replacement for Baines. He's the right age and has a good amount of experience and still has room to improve. My only concern would be that he is right footed.

Baines is a top class player and we can't really afford to let him go but, that said, for the right price (circa £20M) we will get by - particularly as RM is getting the best out of everyone and we're doing fine.

It should only be allowed to happen if the deal is right for us.

But if it allowed us to spend £20+ million on a striker who could score regularly for us for years to come then we'd be daft to turn it down when Baines could leave for free within 18 months.

It's inevitable though isn't it? He's gone in January. He wants to play in the World Cup and the Champions League. Makes me sad.
I'm sure Roberto has the replacement lined up (+ reinforcements elsewhere) for the 15m we'll get for him.
Really do have an exceptional amount of trust in Martinez.

True, but he's going to the World Cup anyway. If he moves to United and ends up in a stupid rotation system with Evra, he'll probably no longer be first choice for Hodgson.
Maybe he'll move after the World Cup?
Am I clutching at straws?

Moyes now has to make a serious statement in the transfer market, and signing another Everton player won't do that for him. He needs to show that he can attract global names to UTD (not players he's worked with already). If they sign Baines, it'll be an afterthought.

Would a move be detrimental for Baines' hopes of being England's starting LB in the World Cup?

Why move in January and have to adapt to new teammates and put unnecessary pressure on his own performance.
