This is what I posted on BK on Wednesday night:
As some people may know the Marketing department at Everton is shocking, but what amazed me more is that those charged with developing the clubs marketing sense outside of the club are also lacking in self-belief in what they do. Ok to some a job is just a wage bill, and 5pm on a Friday = [Poor language removed] off world i'm getting trashed. But what I can't abide is bollocks, and that is all I seem to get from those involved in promoting the name of the club.
In the Birkenhead store today to buy a cake for my Sister, did they have any? Did they [Poor language removed]. I then moved into rant mode and asked what the hell was going on with the Everton marketing, I got a vacant response. So I decided to illustrate with an example. I had just returned from Chester where I was getting a Father's day present for my strangely Liverpool supporting Dad. So reluctantly I had to walk into what I can only describe as a red explosion. Not one single inch of that Liverpool FC store in Chester is not covered with some kind of Liverpool paraphanelia. Hate them or not, that's marketing - if I was a fan of them and I am glad I am not, that store would be a dream. The ironic thing is that store used to be Everton FC, and it was like going into ASDA the day after a petrol strike, the shelves were empty and it basically looked like it was temporarily an Everton store. No effort, no desire, no pride, no sign of pushing the great history we have. The Birkenhead store is only slightly different in my opinion.
So having explained this to the guy he basically told me that the Everton store in Chester was run by Everton, and this one in Birkenhead is run by JJB. He then basically mocked Everton, which I then said well the JJB in Bromborough has [Poor language removed] all Everton stuff and the first thing you see is Steven Gerrards ugly face. To which he explained that it is like that because they are waiting for Everton stock to come in, and Liverpool's had just come in, hence why it was RS all the way, and as soon as you enter the store. Well the first thing you see is a poster of Gerrard, the one about family and crest. Well that's not for sale, so why can't they put up a poster of Arteta in the new coming soon shirt? Vacant response.
Just excuse after excuse as to why this club is sadly lacking in its marketing department. Man U got where they are because they are a marketable club. They were like that way before they started winning stuff, so what is our excuse? Too many people not doing their jobs right.
You may say I am moaning, but this is an integral cog of the Everton engine, and its vital that it is improved asap. I have had emails from the club, but they are basically saying the same, buck passing.
