Sam Allardyce to be confirmed as new Everton manager

Everton have confirmed Sam Allardyce will be at USM Finch Farm this afternoon to finalise terms on becoming the new manager of Everton Football Club.

Sammy Lee is expected to join as assistant manager while former Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare will also join the backroom team.

Everton have been without a manager for over a month since sacking Ronald Koeman on 23 October after the club slipped to 18th in the Premier League following a 5-2 home defeat by Arsenal. David Unsworth – the club’s caretaker-manager oversaw a dismal run of five defeats from seven games but lifted Everton to 16th, collecting four points from his four league matches.

Allardyce, 63, understood to be the preferred choice of director of football Steve Walsh, has been out of football since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

David Unsworth, who has been in caretaker charge since Koeman was sacked 37 days ago, will take charge of his final game on Wednesday evening against West Ham United.
