Zenit might be sniffing after Fellaini

It makes no odds, it's still Russia. The land of corruption, rampant racism, freezing temperatures and p*ss being thrown over players.

It'll never be a top league.

Every league has it's problems

The issue with us getting £30m to spend is wages.

if we go and get say 3x10m players thats 3x wages. For a player going for that type of fee an agent is going to be looking north of 50-60k P.w. That means your wage bill climbs by around 100k pw once you take away mo's wages. That's 5m a year give or take. or 25m over a five year deal. We can't sustain that type of expenditure and you end up with the firesale scenario we had last time.

That's the problem we have. I think we have cut the bill a bit recently though. We have the likes of Neville and Heitinga on big wages who are disposable though and I'd prefer if this was their last year so we could try younger players on lower wages. Plus some money going to the bank may reduced interest payments a little bit. Fine margins though.

What about the MLS lad?

You think the MLS doesn't have it's problems?

theirs are more to do with the setup - bad transfer system, players only go there to end their careers it seems, can't attract home grown players, no youth systems

The Russian league is also quite competitive, 6 winners in 20 years, 6 different runners up

PL: 5 winners, 6 runners up

not saying the russian league isn't about money or that it's better than the PL it's just that it does have more going for it than people think

they have also had 2 teams win the Europa League in the last 7 years

the country also has a great youth development system

This shouldn't be as much of a problem as it once was, with all the extra TV money on its way.

£32m for Witsel, and Fellaini is better than Witsel, and on a four year contract.

So you're talking £35-40m minimum for a club like that. They set a rod for their own back with their other transfer dealings so if they want him, they pay properly for him.

Value has fcuk all to do with it mate, Witsel had a buy out clause, Zenit triggered it.

We should start putting insane buy out clauses into our players' contracts. It's not like we manage to keep hold of our best player for too long, so it would make sense and protect us from having them poached for less than they are worth.
