German Bundesliga
Schalke 04 - Jonjoe Kenny played full match in 2-1 home win over Mainz.

No particular fan comments about him - his 'marks' (they give players marks out of 5 as at German schools - 6 is a fail) were between 3 (satisfactory) and 4 (adequate), tending towards a 4.

Long time since I watched a Bundesliga match so it was interesting to see the tactics and level of play, especially of two teams not really at the top level of their league. I can see why young players from the PL could prosper in the Bundesliga - they have the right level of physicality and, if they have a bit of skill and are not afraid on the ball, then they should fit in well. Kenny was mostly fine, although obviously being told not to go too far forward. He played a few intelligent attacking passes but most of the attacking play went down the other wing.

As mentioned in the other thread Schalke played a little bit like us with the wing-back full backs in attack and a midfielder dropping into defence if necessary. Their defence was a bit of a mess in the second half with this system, though, and Kenny looked vulnerable to the quick press, almost being caught in possession three times. In fact, this was the most surprising thing about the game - the amount of wayward passes and easy loss of possession - I'd put the level on the limited evidence of this match at playoff level Championship.

Dowell might well do OK over here...

....perhaps he’s absolutely loving life out there.
Well he seems to be absolutely loving playing out there, but he’s still a young lad with good strong family ties, he’ll be missing them for a start, and it’s a long day being a footballer after training has finished so he’ll find that hard as well, that’s without the language problem!!!

League One
Lincoln City - Callum Connolly played full match in 0-6 home defeat to Oxford United

OS Match Report

Fan comment
"Today the game completely passed Morrell and Connoly by. No point having two holding midfielders if neither of them can actually stop an attack."

Burton Albion - Nathan Broadhead played full match in 1-2 away defeat to Tranmere Rovers

OS Match Report
"Quick thinking from a throw in by Broadhead on the half hour conjured up another Albion chance with Ryan Edwards running into the box as the home defence momentarily switched off but from an acute angle the Australian could not find the far corner of the net."
"Broadhead forced a good save low to the keeper's right but the ball came back out to Edwards who could not beat the keeper as he quickly got up to get a leg to the ball and divert it wide."

Twitter stuff
59. CLOSE!!! Lovely interplay between Broadhead and Daniel - the latter released down the left channel and his excellent ball across the face of goal is narrowly missed by Edwards!!
60. Quinny fires over narrowly from distance. Excellent play by Broadhead in the build-up, surrounded by three players and found a pass through.
70. SAVE. Broadhead's low shot is parried by Davies - it falls to Edwards but the keeper makes another excellent stop.

Kieran Dowell, Joao Virginia, Matthew Pennington and Josh Bowler were all unused subs.
Korede Adedoyin was not in matchday squad.
