I hope so too.

But the issue for us this summer was that we had a manager who had to put up with a policy of slash and burn in terms of getting players out but the replacements he required were too slow coming in (hence his comment about 'another preseason' needed to bed them in) or weren't fit to make starts in the first two months of the season...at least.

That wasn't fair on the manager. If he's struggling in a few weeks time to get fans keeping the faith then it's been down to that transfer policy he was handcuffed to. I hope the moaners remember that.

Correct me if I'm wrong Dave, please, but who are you suggesting is mainly at fault in that regard?

Because I do agree, but I also think that it couldn't really be helped, to a large extent.

Silva and Brands were both new in. Both wanted time to assess the squad (it took longer with some than it did with others, but it got done), and conversely that meant that we had to be prudent with ins until we could guarantee that the squad was cleared enough to bring them in.

It was a perfect storm in many respects, and still is.

So it's not always a blame game. And while I agree with you, I can't help but get the feeling you're looking to pin it on Brands? As I said, correct me if I'm mistaken.

I just think, for the time being, we have to accept just what a work in progress this is for everybody.

Niasse wasn't cheap, arrived with an injury, took a VERY long time before he was able to play, and has turned out to be
an underwhelming signing.

Mina wasn't cheap, arrived with a long term injury, is taking a VERY long time being ready to play, and, well.....we'll see.

Do you not see the similarity?

Niasse’s injury was an excuse to not play him because he was woeful. His “wrist niggle” as Bobby called it was not keeping him out of the side. His terribleness was. You can wrap a wrist and play. I’ve known guys who do so with a full on break. So completely different.

I mean, I get his point. Until Mina pays for us we have no idea if he's crap here or not.

Did Niasse perchance come from a very high profile world noticing World Cup where his quality was visible for all to see ?

What's the similarity? Niasse was bought off a crap russian team. Mina and Gomes came from one of/the best clubs in the world who felt the need to put a £60m buyback clause. Not saying that means he's going to be great, but I can't see how you'd think this is similar to the Niasse deal.
The significant point there is that they are no longer at that club.
Mina had a "minor" foot injury and has missed a 1/6 of the season already. .We have no idea how good they are until they play and with the way things are at the minute we need them.
Bring back big Sam,only joking guys. NEVER

I mean, again, to his point, Niasse was held out of training as well.

Once again, I'm not saying it's right, I'm just acknowledging that there are similarities.
Was he? I seem to recall Lukaku giving feedback of him right away based on him training and the Echo quoted the following.
“Niasse was even quoted as saying he was fine to play, which left Evertonians bemused why they weren’t seeing him.“

The only similarity I see is that they didn’t play right away, but I think the reasons are extremely different. We’re going to find out soon enough I suppose.

I don't recall that that all, thought the only club stance was "he has a wrist injury". Could well be wrong.
