Yeah it's fun while it lasts, I enjoyed our runs to Wembley but end of the day we came out with nothing....
They're acting like finishing runner up elevates them to being a top top side and justifys the massive spending etc,

Well, for this season they kind of are. 4th in the PL out of 20 teams puts them in the top percentile. 2nd in the CL also puts them what? 2nd in Europe? I don't like to blow their trumpet but they've done well. If we had finished 4th in the PL and runnera up in ANY cup, 99% of us would be jizzing in our pants! And how do we justify our massive spending? There would be embarrassing videos on YouTube. Jesus, even when we don't win there's still some bloke with a kid in his arms trying to punch a player......

We'd recognise an improvement but wouldn't claim to be back in Europe's elite off the back of one season.

We don't, the majority of us admit last seasons buys were a shambles

Something that was universally panned by the majority of blues as disgusting and not wanted, the rs would have a petition going for him by now

Most people have the missed the point here totally. The mediocrity is out celebrating too the early hours after losing a final, clearly content that they lost.

... Not the actual getting there.

I think Real Madrid are proof that winning and success are habitual. Once you have the habit , you also have the belief . We need a style of football, performances and competitiveness that we can all believe in .If that's what we get next season, then I'll be happy with that, even if that means no more than best of the rest in the league. A cup run would be nice. But it will take a significant improvement in stability at the club, player recruitment and development, coaching and our style of play for us and the team to believe that we can win something .
I would go completely the opposite way and say that Real are proof that the teams with the best players will usually end up winning trophies. When we're bringing Bale and Asensio off the bench I'll expect us to win stuff, but last time we got to a final we brought on Jacobsen, Gosling and Vaughan.

Winning isn't really a habit, which is why newly promoted teams who've battered everyone in the Championship don't usually win the Premier League, and teams who've gone a whole season unbeaten in the Maltese league tend to come unstuck when they play in Europe. Belief and swagger comes from the knowledge that you're better than the opposition, and man for man Real are as good as anyone in the world.

Only top 4 and CL footy or an FA cup win would be considered anything better than mediocrity.

That’s the margins we are dealing with here folks.

At this point and for the last 25-30 years, we are mediocre at best ! If a new manager celebrates some improvement... fine with me. If we have to win the league or a Cup before management/ players fans can get excited and celebrate.... well that could be a very long time! We are closer to "celebrating " a third place playoff Championship trophy than a CL place or a FA Cup win

Your first point: A lot here claim to be Europe's elite now. We would not simply recognise runners up in the CL 'an improvement'. You're kidding yourself to even think that mate. I'd be straight on the phone to my RS mates and rubbing their noses in it. Not to mention constantly talking about how close we came and even suggesting that if we improve the following season, we might just go on to win it!

Your second point: Yes, we admit we bought a bunch of deadwood and finished nowhere. Finishing 4th in the league and runners up in the CL does justify their spending, in fact it more than justifies spending more considering how close they were!

Third point: Yes, we panned him for it as it was bang out of order. To think all of the RS condone their idiots is, well.....idiotic. I've got very good mates who were unfortunate enough to be RS.

You may wan't to take off your blue tinted glasses. We're no different to most fans, just more biased.

No, you are missing the point. There is nothing mediocre about being in a Champions League final. They are light years ahead of us, on and off the pitch, with a manager we would absolutely love.

Have a reality check.

Didn’t he promise to celebrate with them whatever happened, so wasn't he just fulfilling his promise while being filmed like the media whore he is?

it's a thread i created, i can't miss the point on a thread i created.

Whilst we continue our new manager search, i wanted to see what the general consensus was of Everton fans' opinion on what type of manager we should hire?

After seeing the embarrassing footage of Jurgen Klopp celebrating another runners-up medal into the early hours of the bitters' final loss, i have noticed not one of their fans is calling for his head. If the roles were reversed, would we be the same? Or would we make a statement as fans that this isn't acceptable, as winning nothing, is not worth celebrating.

Over the last few years (under moshiri), we have collectively let the board know that Martinez, Koeman and Allardyce's 'achievements' have not been good enough for our club, despite the media's dismay that they have in fact been good enough.

I think the fact that our fanbase has been forward in letting the board know about this, whilst the bitters are always looking for other excuses like arm rolls, shows the wave of change in both clubs' ambitions. Whereas they fear their manager is bigger than the club and are afraid of upsetting the apple cart, we're showing a determination not to just plod along like them picking up runners-up medals, whilst we sack any manager who doesn't bring us a trophy.

That's just my opinion though, would you be happy with a manger who only gets us to these finals and constantly let's us down? Or would you want one who will take the risks required to end our trophy drought?
Personally, as others have said, losing the CL final isn't mediocrity. However they ended up there, they lost in the final game of the most lucrative and prestigious competition out there (outside the big 3/4 leagues)
