Could have gone in the Israel thread but the sentiment from the Hamas fella feels more ambitious and WW3 like.

The notion that North Korea would launch a nuclear first strike against the United States is delusional. Either he does not grasp that he is a useful pawn from the perspective of Russia and China, or he is putting lipstick on a pig. It's hard to know which without more context than I have.

Exactly what all normal people being forcibly sent off to war will be worrying about...their investments
The Economist does not market itself to normal people, or people who will be sent off to war for that matter. They market themselves to people with the resources to game the draft system, get medical deferments for asthma or bone spurs, join the Air National Guard in the sure knowledge that they will not be called up, etc.

(Clinton, Biden, Trump and W., if you're wondering.)

Just popping in to say that after many years of trying to get the US to finalise the signing of the nuclear treaty that iirc everyone else signed off (comprehensive Test Ban C1996 iirc), the Russian Dumas signed off binding themselves to the treaty too recently. The USA also conducted at least one experiment late last month that may be related to their research and development of an extremely large nuclear warhead.
This has several countries concerned, including the US allies, especially as only two countries, the US and Israel, have not stated that the nuclear option would only be a retaliatory response to the same.

Oh, and Russia have just re-started the precaution of having the president accompanied by an official with launch codes and confirmation abilities. The US has never stopped.

That was supposed to be 'shouldn't we all lie down and put a paper bag over pour heads?'

Still 'something like that@.

Putin will not be a happy bunny.

Do you think that passes the House as easily? I can imagine half a dozen ways Johnson can turn it into a useful political football.

Back when politics stopped at the water's edge, that's on the President's desk the day they come back from Thanksgiving recess, but right now I suspect Johnson will try to leverage it in the appropriations legislation battle with the Senate.

Not got a clue, mate. It'll be interesting to watch it unfold.
