Wonders of The Solar System

A decent set of binoculars will reveal tons of detail on the moon! It's just keeping it steady that is hard.....

Always meant to get a telescope. A half decent one's about £300 quid though.

The solar system really is amazing. How all the planets and stars and intricacies of the universe decided to create themselves is mindblowing. Makes you wonder whether there really is a god. It is far too staggering to comprehend that it just "happened".

Or there was some bloke carving [Poor language removed] out of rocks and dirt.

What is does to is put things in perspective. How insignificant are we?

Yeah.

Had an argument the other day at work with a guy about it, he reckoned that the universe is way too awesome to be just "luck" so therefor there must be a god.

I said i could understand that viewpoint, the universe is amazing so could of been created but we should all keep an open mind instead of putting all our belief in one idea as the only idea.

He didn't like that.

This thread would be boss with some pics. (y)

A freind of mine was talking recently about how his tattooist suggested the idea of getting the solar system tattooed on him like in the pic above.

And i so wanna steal it cause its an awesome idea but that would just be a bit rude. Although i dont know if he actually plans on getting it though.

And i just remembered that when i was younger i had some top trumps with all the planets and their moons in, i loved that.

And they had drawn up some aliens they reckoned lived on them. Awesome.

One of the most wonderful sights I've ever seen was when on holiday in Egypt. We (my wife and I) went to a Bedouin camp where there had been erected a radio telescope that had been, if I remember correctly, paid for by us Brits. The moon seemed so big that I said at the time I swore I could see Buzz Aldrin's golf ball! (OK, I know now it was Alan Shepard who hit the ball) but the real highlight was when I looked at Saturn - and saw the rings! :o

guffaw

i had world cup 82 ones and some euro ones with antonio antonioni, still chuckle at that, as good as neville neville that one.

The solar system, all the stars, planets, other galaxies etc etc are so detailed and numerous it's sometimes beyond comprehension, you'd need a billion dollar computer to even start to understand it.

It's amazing to think you can even feel any heat from the sun when it's 93,000,000 million miles away. :o

can you imagine how hot it would be like half a mile away if possible, that would soon roast some marshmallows.

It's such a vast and awkward topic the galaxies I think it's best we leave it to Patrick Moore to tell it like it is, good summing up there.
