This. They actually laughed at the audacity of the Wolves player blatently cheating with the connivance of the referee. Shameful

Bet your bottom dollar they wouldn’t be laughing if it had been in a game between City and Liverpool.

“The ref simply has to get that right, it’s poor, very poor from him. It turned the game in Man City’s favour” etc etc.

The cross came in from their left and Keane wasn’t able to reach it with his head. My memory might be off having had a couple of sherbets, but I wouldn’t be blaming Baines for the goals from what I remember?
He needed to get close to Jiminez and make him feel some sort of challenge. He watched it all unfold and did nothing.

I said at the time both Baines and Keane were at fault.

Well, strictly speaking, the midfielders were for not closing Neves down and allowing him the time/space, but Keane was totally out of position and Baines didn't sense that and get round on the cover (although I don't think he'd have come close to matching Jimenez, he could have maybe knocked him off balance etc)

Ian Wright the only pundit on MOTD with common sense. Shearer cowardly hiding behind 'its the law' and just ignoring the 16 cart wheels and taking the free kick from wherever the guy wanted to take it from.

Abysmal officiating from the Ref for the red card that was never a red car in a million years and for the player taking the free kick from 5 yards closer which makes a massive difference for a free kick that close to the box. Basically just took it from where his preferred and practised position. Refs may as well just throw away their cans of paint if they aren't going to bother using them for such important game changing moments like that. Going to be yet another season of poor Refs influencing results with poor officiating.

On reflection, fair enough. Let's not take anything away from the free kick though. Pickford may of made it harder for himself, but there was only ever so much he could do regardless, right?
He could have done his job

I'm a big fan of Pickford btw but if he thinks he wasn't mostly at fault for that goal he'll never be a great keeper

Give up mate, you`ll never win.

Baines is to blame for global warming, the housing crisis, the North South divide, the death of the coal industry and childhood obesity, to name but a few.

Pawson shouldn't be allowed near a pitch for months.

I won't lay the blame off Jagielka (or Pickford) for that Neves goal.

But the referee or his officials not spotting that the ball was 5 yards forward is a disgrace. He also clearly didn't use his spray, which is actually an obligation of the referee.

Everton should be pressing for him to be suspended/dumped to the Champ for a week or two. He's an abysmal official. May be it's a s******e thing to do, but you can guarantee that if it was the RS/City/Utd/Chelsea/Spurs, Pawson wouldn't be seen again in the top flight for a while. The red card is subjective. Not doing his job is negligence.

I know we were on the end of a complete shocker, but just watching MOTD and there is a bad decision in every game. Standard of refereeing is an abomination in the PL.

And people were genuinely happy that VAR wouldn't be used.

The whole point of it is to give these complete half-wits some extra help, and it's much needed.

Works in every other league it's used in btw, as well. It's just the whole media hype/general Englishness of not being able to do anything effing right that causes the issues.

I like andre marriner because he is not fussy and allows things to go. There's not one other ref in the league who I don't look at and expect utter crap. Maybe not oliver too, he's not awful.

I don't even care about VAR. Video replays will still be interpreted wrong to suit certain teams too. I just want to see some proper standards and punishment for incompetence. Ignoring the red card, that ref allowed a free kick to be scored from about 8 yards closer to the net than the offence. That's just absolutely shocking.

And Holgate gets a free pass for disappearing off the face of the earth?

All of Europes top leagues are using VAR this season, except the premier league. Big shame as I think the league is as competitive as its ever been.
