William Carvalho

This just in, FM isn’t real. Fun, but not real.

Carvalho is fine in the air and isn’t that slow. He can push up the field just fine. He’d work great with Gana as twin DCMs in Silva’s 4-2-3-1.

Except Silva has said he will play 4-3-3 with the number 6 role key - like Huddlestone when he was at Hull and Doucoure at Watford. He mentioned Schneiderlin as the only one we have, so either knows he is going or wants Carvalho as an upgrade/competition. I guess Gana could play one side of him in the 3 with a bit more license to press higher up the pitch, perhaps with Davies the other. A bit worried about a lack of creativity though.

No way in a million years, gana & Davies play either side of Carvalho in a 3. If one of them plays regularly they will be doing well. Personally I would like to see Wilshire on the left and Sigurdsson on the right.

I know Wilshire is not everyone’s cup of tea. But on the the cheap, if we aren’t as flush as last year I think he we be a decent buy. And would suit the system, maybe doesn’t suit Silva though

He doesnt suit me either, utter prize helmet, which I could probably look past, considering hes got talent, but sadly I doubt hes seen the last of his injury worries.

Perhaps his favored 4-3-3 more often looked like a 4-1-4-1 which in reality breaks down to a No6 in front of the back four with two CM's licensed to get forward, two wider players and a No9. Sigurdsson is not one of the wider players or the No9, so he is one of the two CM's. the other one would be Gana or Davies or a new signing. Big Willy would be the No6.

---GK(1)---
-RB(2)----CB(4)--CB(5)----LB(3)
----------Carvalho(6)---------
----Sigurdsson(10) - Davies/Gana(8)----
-Walcott(11) - --------------------RW(7)-
------Striker(9)--------

according to the Silva book of tactics and video analysis, the the 2 CM's either drop back either side of the No6 or move forward into ACM territory as play ebbs and flows.
The sum of my tactical knowledge is now on this page.

Just a hunch C.

He would attract a decent fee and if im totally honest, I dont see him in a 4-3-3.

In a 4-3-3 as the screener, he'd work fine.

But it depends what Silva wants.

I don't see Gana being sold, though. But I also don't see him as a guaranteed starter.

I imagine Gana would work well in a midfield 3 if Silva wants to play a pressing game.

A 3 man midfield of Carvallho (to break up play and distribute from deep. Sigurdsson as a playmaker higher up the pitch and Gana as the workhorse.
You'd have 2 good passers in Gylfi and Carvalho, and 2 good ball winners in Gana and Carvalho.

My only concern would be the lack of pace there. Although we could balance with an additional winger to compliment Walcott and a pacey left back.

With Lookman coming in we'll be hitting our midget quota so Wilshere is a NO from me.
