I'm sure that the plan after sacking Martinez wasn't to find another manager who would also lose their way and get sacked. The poor choice of Koeman does not make getting rid of Martinez a bad decision.
A different manager is perhaps the swifter and more economically viable "reset" button when trouble appears. I struggle to think of any clubs who have backed their manager to the extent of the chairman/board changing huge swathes of the playing staff instead.
