also a important thing is its been 3 games and we havent won 1 yet

i know ur aware of this but its too early for these type of articles,i feel. robster has massive task in even livin up to moyes

I don't want to dismiss the optimism in the article just to have a moan but I do find all the possession and shot stats irrelevant when they aren't turned in to goals and wins. The Kopites were using this a lot last season, but where did it get them? In all 3 games we could have got the win but we didn't do enough in my opinion. Our build up play has been far too slow and not enough of our play has produced genuine goal scoring chances. That is only my opinion on the 3 games so far though. With Lukaku up front and the other players we've added, I fully expect us to start taking our chances and getting the 3 points more often.

Have you and Davek switched bodies like in the movies??

Goat in DaveK's body made me think of the incredible hulk.

on-topic. It'll take time, but we have a fair chance of improving under Martinez. Other clubs will spend more than us and have bigger squads but it's getting the best out of your top 18 which gets you into Europe. After that, you need more strength in depth to actually play in Europe. I'm not sure if this answers JDawg's OP but I'm distracted by the whole "Erect for Everton" tagline.

Playing accurate passing football is the hallmark of any successful side certainly all the great Everton sides operated thus it isn't new or a re-invention of the wheel it's the way good footy SHOULD be played

If we had won umpteen things this last era playing the "other" way there might be an argument as it is 1 title, 2 FA cups and a Europa cup during Moyes time hardly ....... WHOA SORRY!!... I meant "winning zip" - an easy mistake to make.

Or so it seems.

Not really propaganda if it's written by a neutral journalist mate.

i reckon we'll beat chelsea...hopefully.

i know i've said it before, but this new style will reap dividens WHEN we get back into europe, especially playing away from home.
Just need to overcome the small teams like WBA and cardiff settling for draws against us, it's always hard when you don't have a £15m striker. The shooting stats have surprised me a bit, think we should have shot more often so far, hopefully lukaku will be the man to start getting the points on the board that our dominance has deserved so far.

There isn't much of a point in there that I can find. I think you can argue that it's good to have a plan of how to play, I like that and it's something we didn't see much of under Moyes. However I also think you could argue we've lacked ideas in the final third in all the games we've played so far under Martinez, just like we did under the previous manager.

I'd also expect we had similar stats against the sides we've played so far this season last year. Chelsea will be a good taste, see if we can maintain the same levels against better opposition. If we maintain control of every game we play in the same way, I'd imagine most people would be pleased with that.

I think you do a disservice to WBA mate to be fair. Yes they set up quite defensively, but they looked to break a fair bit when we where dominating possession around the edge of the box. It should also be noted that Nowrich really was unfortunate, in that scored with pretty much their only chances of the game. Things could be better of course, but maintaining the status quo would be an achievement for Martinez this year. Hopefully things will improve now he has brought a few more players to play the system.

I'm not a stats man myself.... The league table doesn't lie... I think what we as a club are trying to achieve will ale a bit of time but I can't see how counting passes is gonna help us get points on the board... That's not me being negative though, I just don't read much into the stats....I prefer to see with my own eyes.... Interesting read all the same though JD.

Quite right mate, however what I've seen has been encouraging for the most part, but alas frustrating in the final third. I'm confident it'll work out but we'll just have to see.
