Why does this happen?

We can blame players. We can curse and moan but it won't change until we understand what causes us to collapse.

Is it being spineless?

Is it bad luck?

Why can't we do it to other teams?

But until the club deal with this there will be no changes. No big match wins - no semi or final wins against the RS since 1906. No wins at big side's grounds and maybe another twenty years without a win at The Pit.

And more last minute collapses at Leicester, Liverpool, City LC semis,

And more so called heroic failure against Villarreal, Fiorentina.. collapses at Millwall, West Ham (FA Cup)... Man U semi heartache, embarrassing Cup exit at Liverpool, Bristol Rovers, Brentford, Panathinaikos, Oldham.... And on and on.

And we deserve answers.
You answered your own question with your first four words.

Everton fans desperately asking the club why we're always so crap:

Mentality. It's the biggest part of sport.

Everyone in the top flight has ability, mentality is what separates the good from the great.

Problem with that is too many of our lot aren’t even good in the first place, ally that to some being mentally weak in the first place doesn’t give you a solid base to work from!

Last night emphasised the lack of strong characters in the squad, as if we didn't know...

Obviously positions need to be filled, but they need to be filled with hard nosed, strong, leaders who get themselves and others organised, not just by pointing and shouting but by example. There needs to be a defender in that back four that the others take heed of and there needs to be a central midfielder that commands respect and exudes authority. Luckily as it happens EFC also need a CM and a CB, so over to you Marcel. Make sure that whoever comes in isn't just good at football when everything's going well, but is able to run a game from their position.

Because clowns like Niasse and Davies can make mistake after mistake yet still be guaranteed a game.

Because Delph can scrap with fans online then get in the team week in week out.

Because Pickford can cock about and have absolutely no competition for his place.

It all ultimately comes down to recruitment and management and we have been pee poor on both fronts for years now.

Chickens coming home to roost.
I don't often agree with you but the title of this thread should be why in so much of a short space under a top Manager we have been HUMILIATED twice.... yet when DUNC our stand in Manager took the helm for three games v better opposition the team had guts and the fight was there? also we had great wins with far better performances v harder teams?.......

The fans deserve a gold medal for putting with with this s**** for 30 years; the match-going fans even more so. The players are not children FFS, they are extremely well-paid grown men. And if they are that emotionally insecure that a few anxious shouts from the stands seemingly impairs their footballing ability, they should probably go find another job.

this means u are part of the problem my son. i am so so sorry ur deep insecurity and entitlement cannot see otherwise but i wish u well.

What would that achieve?

You think they’re not absolutely gutted that we somehow managed to concede 2 injury time goals last night?

Ridiculous

Genuinely, and I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all, there’s a few in amongst that lot that would not have been “absolutely gutted” by that result last night or the game across the park the other week, they aren’t coming at it from the same emotional level we do! There’s too many of them happy just to pick up their wages each week, I suspect one or two wouldn’t even have been worrying about it on their drive home, unless it was out of concern for their win bonus!

A combination of bad luck, weak mentality, not just from the players, but also the fans.

That type of energy of nervousness around Goodison does effect the players as much as the fans getting behind them and being the 12th man.

However last night was all about gamesmanship. Our players tried to pass it around with pace, and they did that all night, and with that you are prone to make mistakes. But there is a time to just slow the game down, and we didn't do that. Especially when we conceded the first goal, I can't believe we didn't just pass it around for 1 minute. That's all it needed.

What gets me is every slight bit of pressure we crumble. We can go third we lose to Villa, we can beat Brighton we fold, Liverpool are playing the kids we are favourites, we lose... We have a two nil lead at 93 minutes at home to a bang average Newcastle team and draw. We haven't come back from behind once this season. It's the mentality of the players and a lack of leadership on the pitch, spineless and braindead. It's why the best we will do is top ten. There's no point saying we can go here or there if we win, forget Europe this year these players don't have the mental strength to win enough games and kick on to qualify for Europe.

Managers come and go, so do players and so do owners even. One constant is the fans.

The fanbase breeds negativity and a losers mentality which shapes the ethos of the club.
