Why can't we win the league

were in form, but I dont think we can play like this for the whole season, there will be games where we are unlucky to lose and where we dont turn up like against leeds.

The more interesting question is can we finish top 4. We're certainly playing well enough now. The biggest problem we have is that we're heavily reliant on a few key players - Fellaini, Pienaar, Baines, Jelavic and so on. Even losing Gibson for a few games has had a noticeable effect on how we perform. Over the season not just injuries, but physical and mental tiredness can come into the mix. So far this season most of our goals have come in the first half of games. If we're struggling to keep up energy levels now for the whole 90 minutes, what will we be like in six months time ? All our rivals have much bigger and stronger squads than we do, and that's a worry.

I did not think the Premier League was as good as it has been last season.
Most teams have made changes/improvements this time and it will be very tough.

To break into the top 4, something amazing has to happen with a long unbeaten run for us and other teams slip up.

I kind of hope they do. The conclusion should be that most Everton fans are realistic. A few are getting optimistic and a few are very pessimistic.
Honestly, I'm glad people are getting carried away. It's refreshing to see people go a bit loopy over Everton and not have a bleak outlook. There are too many "realists", who are constantly looking to temper expectations with negativity. At least we are in the position to consider this as a wildly optimistic shout, rather than an impossibility.

great post

Giroud/Podolski/Gervinho i'd take over Torres/Sturridge/Moses. Torres is the best player of the six for me but if we're talking depth Chelsea look severely lacking up front if he's out. Neither is particularly strong up front mind.

Defensively i'd take Vermaelen, Koscielny, Sagna and Gibbs over any Chelsea back four combo. Luiz is a liability and Terry is on a steady decline.

I'd say maybe central striker simply because they have more options like you say, but that's about it. In fact I'd still probably take Torres and Sturridge over the Arsenal three. For defence, I'd say their first choice back fours are about the same but Chelsea have better squad players for all those positions. Arsenal's main strength for me is still their teamwork and how they play rather than individual skill.

Don't know about winning the league, but if there was ever a chance to qualify for the CL then this is it.

This!
We are playing well at the moment, but there will be hard tests to come. We will lose form at some stage, so the real test will be to see if we can keep grinding out the results, and how many points we can get against the other likely teams.
