Why can't we win the league

To win we'd need a lot of luck, as others have said, with injuries, suspensions, form, consistency etc. simply because we don't have the pure breadth and depth of squad the "rich guys" do.

What interets me more and makes this season feel different so far, is that among some of the the usual sound bites from DM we
are hearing things stated in public by him, in my view, not heard for quite some time. is it because we are playing Boss footy or has something else triggered this?

Just some examples. He has:-
1. admitted he would not have paid to watch Everton pre-Xmas
2. admitted we have bottled it in recent seasons when we've had a chance to push on to the next steps mentioning Cup Final vs Chelski and semi last year vs RS as examples
3. started talking about more than just the initial 40 points as the only target and talking after 6 games of Europe and a dream of CL football, if we are still a worry to the rich boys come April
4. admitted after Soton game that in the past we have set up to a nick a goal - Quote: "With Jelavic and Mirallas, you see Everton with a bigger goalscoring threat than we've had before," he said. "In a lot of games over the year we've had to set up thinking 'can we stay with it? Can we nick a goal?' Now we come here and expect Everton to score."

It is almost as if he has been reading GOT over past 12 months where people have cried out for us to take it to teams not just hope to nick one with a dour defensive display, sort the right side out, play people in their strongest positions etc etc.

Long may it last because these times of joy do not come around too often.

I've noticed a slight change in his attitude too. Which is nice. Perhaps he's starting to believe in his team as one of the better sides in the division.

As for the bolded bit... I honestly don't see why managers, coaches, players etc. wouldn't read a fans forum. Obviously there's a lot of stuff that's posted and therefore some... uneducated opinions, shall we say, about things, since we're not all coaches and the like. But there's also a lot of intelligent discussion that can take place and if you want pure, unfiltered feedback (not just opinion from the yes men that would usually surround a footballer) what better place than online?

*sigh*

After 9 games in 2004 we were 3rd with 19 points. We ended up 4th and more than 30 points behind the champions Chelsea.

For a little perspective.

We;re a far better side than 2004 and Chelsea are a far worse side.

I don't think we'll win the league but that perspective is misleading.

I would love it to happen, but i think we all know it wont happen. However, i think after the start the players mindset should be Lets have a go to be the top' if that makes sense. Having a mindset like that could really help us finish top 4. Thats just my opinion.

If you don't believe it why would they?

I will say one thing, in years past when we've gone done 1-0 early I'd always get that sinking feeling, like we'll be lucky to rescue a point in the 87th minute. Saturday when we shipped that first one I thought to myself, not even bothered, we're havin these. Even had we gone down 2 I still would have been confident of winning. This team can score against anyone, I don't think I've ever felt like that with Everton before.

Just popped into congratulate you on a great start to the campaign!

Impressive.

Personally i would love it if the 'top 3' was made up of THFC, EFC & NUFC. Shake things up a bit.

Good luck for the rest of the season (except against us - although i think you may have used up your quota at Goodison last season so we should be ok (y)).

I can handle yous, I cant handle the geordies being up there. Nor have they ever been up there lid.

But yeah would be nice. Long way to go like. We'll fade at some point.

Your yid lids seem to be finding gear though.

If we keep up this form I'd love to see how the 2012 calendar year league table pans out, even at this stage we'd have to be top 4 wouldn't we???

The loss on the opening day to NUFC was AVB's only defeat so far this season but according to the media we are still 'in crisis'.
I have no great love for Toon but at least they are not LFC, AFC, MUFC or CFC.

Panathinaikos on Thur, followed by Villa Sun. Need to win that as we have CFC thereafter (although Terry should be suspended).
