It is supposed to be given to the person who leads the team by example on the field, sets the high standard in play and training, never gives up, grabs his team by the scruff of the neck when behind and gets in the officials face when the decisions are going against you. Someone who has led his club at all levels. A born winner. You don't give it to the next in line based on tenure.

We buy a captain that led a youthful Ajax team to the Europa final, so we might as well use him as that. Apart from considering Seamus and Schneids for Vice, I would not give it to anyone else than Klaassen.
