Who let Everton/Koeman down?

Almost as bad as the pathetic window is the lack of dead wood going out. I still think Gibson is a good player, but Niasse, Kone et al should have been moved on somehow. Yet, here they are. At least with Kone we only have 9 months left on his deal..

if nobody's interested, how is it our fault we can't shift them? No point in getting rid of kone anyway, he's still 3rd choice striker. and the second choice striker is an injury catastrophe.

Juat blind faith from Moshiri mate. Putting the trust in Bill and co to get these deals done and clearly there was a huge error of judgement there. Similar to Ed Woodward over at united, they trusted him to be able to do the job and he massively struggled by himself.

I just think that overall the failure stemmed from lack of planning from all round. At some point over 2 months when these higher calibre players like witsel and mata decide they aren't going to sign, most people would say ok, let us negotiate the lower end of the list and at least get the players in whilst we still have time. the fact that people on the business side thought chasing players from napoli and porto for example up until the end would be a good idea is just examples of how badly they did at the job.

I would even argue to a certain extent that Koeman did not ask for Valencia, and he was brought in as a body for the squad out of desperation, but i have no proof on that so opinion only haha
You make a lot of sense regarding the targeting of lesser lights while we waited in the Mata's and Witsel's to sign on.

Koeman can surely do something with the current squad. We won't miss Sissoko anyway.

As Merson said if he can't do it every week in front of 50,000 screaming geordies he never will.

That's the point/problem tho. It was questioned massively 3 weeks after 'Witsel is ours' and there was Witsel, just stalling. People asked questions and it was 'you CANT put a deadline on THESE players!'. So we sat...and sat........and sat. So instead of moving on to other targets, the B/C/etc ones, we just waited for a player who had done literally everything Sissoko did yesterday without signing for Spurs. Just ineptitude.

We then signed Bolasie.

After signing Bolasie, Koeman said;

On Friday

This is the clubs manager, and majority shareholder openly admitting they need to strengthen the squad - after we signed Bolasie.

It's a fair assumption then, that the club didn't leverage the transfer window as well as they expected and that both Moshiri and Koeman will be a tad annoyed this morning. Koeman admitted himself he'd be disappointed.

So, how do Everton learn from it? Who at Everton is responsible for our transfer shenanigans?

Moshiri tells us it's Kenwright, with support from himself, Steve Walsh and Ronald Koeman.

Since Moshiri come in, with the exception of Alexander Ryazantsev joining the board who has no experience in football - he's kept faith with the existing regime. He promoted Elstone and Barrett-Baxendale to the board. Does Moshiri now have a mandate for change?

"If a player doesn't want to join, what can we do?"
"If a bigger club comes in and takes our transfers, what can we do?"

Appreciate these views, but for me - that is part of the process. Competition/scoping out players who will come and navigating the minefield and murky world of football agents.

Too many times does it seem we've been made a patsy. Forget Sissoko. That was a last minute, panic. I'm not convinced we should be throwing that type of money at a player who the clubs manager wouldn't have had the opportunity to even meet face to face. That failing is just one of many.

So then, I'll wrap up with.

  • Who is to blame for Koeman being left - in his own words - "disappointed"
  • Should Moshiri be making changes to the transfer way of working at Everton?

If Kenwright and Elstone are still in charge of transfers then you won't have to look too far.

Moshiri is going to write himself a memo; Don't let those two muppets any where near the next window. He needs to get more hands on and get their hands off

Both elstone and kenwright were involved in transfers and their track record for making mistakes speaks for its self.

They both need to be let go kenwright can be life president or something but elstone needs sacking immediately

Said it elsewhere already today... it is 99.99999% certain that Robert Elstone had no involvement nor influence in any of the transfer dealings.
It simply is not part of his remit.

Under both Moyes and Martinez, all major transfers negotiations were dealt with by the chairman, not the CEO and it is non-nonsensical to think that RE has suddenly become involved in a side of the business that he's been right on the periphery of at the very best in the past.

Robert Elstone may have faults and shortcomings, but I don't think transfer issues can be laid at his door.

Pretty sure the echo ran a story a few months back saying Kenwright would still be the conductor for transfer for us this summer. It's a farce how the dinosaur still has a position at the club let alone running the rule over our transfer dealings.

I'm happy with the side, we have decent enough players and a decent enough manager to be in the top 8 in the first half of the season.

People need to remember it takes time for players to bed in as well. Come January we can strengthen if we are in a decent spot and pushing for Europe.

Yesterday I was a bit surprised after all the big talk about how we had changed as a club, but today I am feeling like we should just embrace what we have, enjoy the talent on show and watch Mr Koeman make a proper team of them.

Yes I would have liked another keeper, but Stek looks more than capable. At the back we were only possibly a Lamina Kone away from being remarkably solid, but I have enough confidence in Jags and Mori to partner Williams who will surely form the heart of the defence.

Central midfield is obviously Barry ad Gueye but McCarthy, Besic (when fit) and maybe even Davies or Barkley dropping deeper gives us strength there.

Enough creativity and speed wide with Del, Lennon, Kev and Bolasie too. Obviously our options up front after Rom are far from decent but we go with what we have there.

It depends on chain of command, when Moyes was here he done a lot of scouting himself, decided if the player was wanted then informed BK,from there it seems the negotiation of fee, wages etc was left down to him, whether that has changed with Walsh coming in,I dont know, but transfers can fall at the wayside all the time, a few years ago I knew somebody who worked at the club, told me about a 100% done deal which then collapsed due to silly demands

The negotiating team are massively at fault. But ultimately the rap stops with Farhad for allowing Bill and Elstone to stay at the heart of our dealings. Both must go asap and if they aren't fired immediately the fans must force them out.
Are they both still negotiating Our deals? I'm not saying you're wrong but do we actually know this because I haven't got a clue, didn't realise that they were in the first place!

50,000 Geordies are the kopites of the north east. They demand top four finishes every year with a average squad.

Gibson is a great player but he's injured too much, should never have gotten a new contract. No-one was ever going to buy Niasse, and I am hoping Koeman can get the best out of Kone?
