Why would you nearly not include Lineker? I thought he played for us as a striker? Was he before the war?
Lineker was utterly deadly. Get's the nod for me despite only being one season (how did we not win anything that year? Ffs). Big Bob and Sharpy obviously up there too, alongside Rom I guess, seeing as he's the best we've had since Linekers time. Others were way too early for me to cast my vote upon, legends though they may be.

Sharp and Young won stuffPost-war as otherwise Dixie would dominate the poll.
Could be a close one...and stats aren't everything, some of these won major trophies. Tho' some of yous will define not on what the team won but simply how excellent the striker was. Almost didn't include Lineker but one golden season is still something to cherish so he's in (also why Yakubu gets a slot).
I'm guessing Sharp will win, with Joe close behind, but personally my vote goes to Bob Latchford. Supreme striker who was just between two great eras so missed out on trophies.
Fair point; but the title was lost in the first half dozen games or so while we changed players around to fit in Lineker...especially that early season Derby...a draw would've done us and we win the league by 1pt not lose it by 2This, above.
At 0-0 against Oxford away, he was clean through in the last few minutes. He missed. Oxford went on to beat us 1-0. Of such things, titles are lost...

That's me told thenReally?
In the first 6 games of that season, we won 4, drew 1, and lost 1. So your contention that the title was lost in the first half dozen games or so does not stand up to examination of the facts.
And after Lineker scored in the 2-0 win against Aston Villa on 1st March, he scored once in the next 9 games! His hat-trick against Southampton when we won 6-1 was meaningless, since on that day the RS needed to win at Chelsea to win the title, which they duly did 1-0.
After the Anfield derby, we were 8 points ahead with 12 to play. Blew it, absolutely blew it. because we were Lineker-centric. We were better without him in the previous season; we were better without him in the following season...
