We've never really been blessed with decent forwards over the last 20 years. From what I've seen, Lukaku but he was learning his trade here. Would probably give Sharpe a mention.

Was Sharpe an out and out striker?

Lineker was utterly deadly. Get's the nod for me despite only being one season (how did we not win anything that year? Ffs). Big Bob and Sharpy obviously up there too, alongside Rom I guess, seeing as he's the best we've had since Linekers time. Others were way too early for me to cast my vote upon, legends though they may be.

He was deadly, but at the expense of the way the team played and at the expense of other strikers scoring to a certain extent.

We won almost everything in 84/85 without Lineker, finished second in everything in 85/86 with Lineker, then won the league again in 86/87 without Lineker. Brilliant player but we were a better team without him.

Sharp gets my vote.

Good argument that.

I know mate, I just feel we could have included him or built around him in 86/87 and kept him for a few years as the focal point of an immense side. Obviously that all went balls up after certain other events I won't elude to, but there has to be a place for a Lineker somewhere cos he was that bloody good. Of course, Graeme actually won stuff with us but one on one I'd say Lineker for just being so damned clinical. I still think we were exceptionally unlucky in 85/86 too. Many, many things had it in for us that year.

Not exactly Linekers fault but it did change our style. I go for Lineker for his 1 season of prolific scoring but Roy Vernon, Joe Royle the Latch and Sharp not to be sniffed at. Wish we had Lineker longer (or not at all if we knew the style would change & hindsight and kept Gray for another season)

ouch, forgot about Andy Gray...not great stats but scored important goals, won stuff and had a good attitude.

This, above.

At 0-0 against Oxford away, he was clean through in the last few minutes. He missed. Oxford went on to beat us 1-0. Of such things, titles are lost...

If we had kept him he would have been our best by a country mile.
The same could be said for Wayne Rooney. I've gone for him anyway as I believe we saw the best of him in the short time he was with us. He was forced into team tactics after he went to United, but we were lucky enough to see the pure unadulterated version.

Also a quick mention for Adrian "Inchy" Heath. Prior to being butchered by Brian Marwood, he was becoming the most exciting talent I'd ever seen at GP. I'm convinced he would have gone on to be world class.
