Where was it lost?

Stend

Player Valuation: £10m
We came out guns blazing, had a couple of unlucky moments but gave away the 3 points.

Pienaar was fantastic first half!

So where was it lost?

For me we always looked vunerable between the back four and the two CM's.

Mata just sat in that hole and just ran at a back 4 which just backed off and off time and time again. Same with Ramires.

We didnt really have a cat in hells chance with Osman and Hitzlsperger in the middle there.

Heitinga was absolutely shocking, their second goal he just strolled back.... Not arsed.... He needs to go, enough enough.

However we did get at them and were unlucky at times but I just felt the area between Osman, Hitz, Heitinga and Distin was always vunerable and wide open for attack.

It was always gonna be hard against them in that area its where they`re strongest. Just take a look at the players they have like Mata Hazard Torres Oscar Ramires etc who are all top players. I thought they looked very good in that area so i agree thats where it was lost but its no suprise.

We didn't deserve to lose today. We were hungrier for the most part, we had a go at them, the majority of the side performed well and Moyes was positive with his substitutions. If Jelavic's freekick had rebounded to Osman or his header off the bar had dropped kindly for Naismith we would have been back in the game. We couldn't have asked for a lot more apart from good fortune and better marking for their goals.

19 times we have hit the post this season!

Terrible accuracy if you ask me

It was lost somewhere between Gibson going off injured vs Wigan, Fellaini getting a three match ban and four right handed sides players picking up injuries.

Exactly.

However I can't help thinking that Moyes made a bad selection in playing Jags at RB where he is wasted, and persevering with Naismith.

I think its time he put more trust in Oviedo, who looks like he could fill in comfortably at RB for a game or two.

In the first 20 mins we needed that 2nd goal came close but I just had an idea the first thing Tim Howard would do was pick the ball out of the net with a breakaway goal - JH was also appallling offered very little to support the magnificent Distan - why mess the defence around with the slowest defender I have ever seen? Duffy would have been a better alternative just to stay central along side Distan at the back may have stopped at least one goal e.g the first too easy that Lampard header imo!
We had no luck but v a class breakaway team you need more than luck to win or draw with that defence!

I reckon the moment Sam Chedgzoy dribbled the ball in from a corner, thus forcing a change in the rules on corners in 1926 was when it was lost personally.

Heitinga refuses to play fullback, so who else would you put there in the absence of Neville, Hibbert and Coleman? Heitinga needs game time, so it made sense to bring him in and move Jags to the right. Oviedo has is left-sided and has never played right back, so it would have been a big gamble to throw him in there against Chelsea. I personally like Naismith and he's liable to contribute a goal. DM could have tried Oviedo or Barkley on that side but they haven't played there for us before and it could have gone badly wrong if Ashley Cole was able to get forward at will.

I was about to blame however painted the goal posts then caught myself on. I think Artetafan has already hit the nail on the head:

£100 million attacking force....THAT was the difference.

We will always come up short at this stage. We have good players, some very good players, but NO world class players.

We kept Torres, Mata, Hazard, Oscar etc very quiet today and we still would have hit the woodwork even if Jelavic woke up thinking he was Messi.

I wish that was true he cost us at the back today where the hell was he for both goals Distan had tree to mark when they attacked -JH a total waste of space should be left back in the dressing room!
