What's your preference in the Everton midfield Mcarthy or Fellaini?

of course he f**kin did!

He played a few games up front ish but for most of his career he was a defensive midfielder and a cracking one too.

Different types of player, would have love dto see them play together

Chillax mate, was only saying it as that is what people some say.

You can't really compare, two different types of players IMO

I apologise for the sarcasm.

The truth is that Fellaini is/was a vastly overrated, defensively suspect, non creative midfielder who is worth nowhere near 28 million pound. And it was ridiculous the way that some Evertonians (who have been able to recognise his limitations for years) were subjected to abuse and derision by those who thought he was some kind of amasing central midfielder.

Look at the United forums, they can't stand him, and they think he is a slow, defensively suspect, non creative lump, who is nowhere near United standard. And they are correct.

His best position is without question behind the striker, and he is worth about 20million pound, but I would be absolutely gutted if Everton spent 20million on a player like Fellaini.

McCarthy is far superior.

Fellaini is clearly one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and will go down as one of Everton's greatest ever midfielders, so I think it is a bit harsh to compare him with McCarthy.

I'd rather have Fellaini, if I have to choose one or the other.

But, presuming Martinez gets to spend it in Jan, I'd rather have McCarthy and £15m than Fellaini, which is what we ended up with by my count.

Think we had to give 10% of his price to his old club...so difference ex McCarthy purchase is about 11.5 mio . Probably saving 3 mio knicker in wages a year though

I don't get the one of the best "defensive midfielders" in Europe. He really isn't. Moyes showed his best position. Behind the striker.

He is crap in midfield, from both a defensive and a creative perspective. I apologise for the initial sarcasm, but I have actually heard some Evertonians come out with similar stuff.

United are pig sick about buying him. Go on their forums, they wish they had bought Barkley or McCarthy instead. We have had both sets of mancs right off through selling Fellaini and Rodwell for over 40 million. Arsenal had us off through getting Arteta for 10 million.

I agree mate. Overrated as a footballer. Lacks technical ability, passing, shooting. He is a nuisance though and definitely a good top flight player. United, Madrid like once touted... Not for me.

I think some people are forgetting how good Fellaini was for us.

He had some flaws, but he never had a player next to him in midfield that could make up for them - he needed a partner in midfield.

On his day, and in the majority of the games he played for us in the past few years, he was consistently one of the best players on the pitch. He might not be performing for United at the moment, but I think he's still settling in and it's making our own fans forget how class the bloke is.

I think McCarthy is a good player, and potentially a top quality one. But him or Fellaini? Has to be Fellaini for me.

I think Fellaini is a top class second striker/attacking midfielder - whatever his role was back then. However he is completely overrated as a deep lying midfielder.

I don't think he was ever a deep lying mid either. I think he was a all-round beast who, if he was ever given the chance behind Barkley but next to a proper deep lying mid, then he would have been unstoppable.

We are not missing Felli that much so its no great loss but Felli was a good midfielder for us. Perhaps he suited Moyes style of play rather than RM's I don't know, but at the moment I don't think we have missed him at all. Not saying McCarthy is better but he is doing a decent job that its difficult to see any negative difference. Good business really.

Don't agree with unstoppable mate. Overrated in that area of the pitch. Highlighted at United so far.
