What's the best way for THE FANS to sample on field success?

How should fans go about sampling football success?

I am one of those that has talked of patience. I am certainly no 'goon', I think.

I am not here to tell you that you should not want everything now, that is fair enough. My patience is geared toward this season, and this season only. It was always going to be a 'transition' year. The team was not good enough, there were/are good players there but the whole attitude of the club needed to change. It is extremely rare that any club has overnight success.

I am also not a loser, in the sense that I want Everton to lose. I want Everton to win, but this season was always going to be up and down, so ti was about keeping those losses to a manageable level. Hopefully, we can ride the next 5 games, get Europe, and really start to build on that and continue to grow.

One question though is, where does the lack of patience go to? I mean, if we get Europe this season, are you still going to be impatient and demand a title win or is there going to be a little bit of patience and want to simply finish higher up, i.e. Europa League instead of Conference, Champions League instead of Europa League or is it straight to title winning stuff. This is where patience is needed, and it is flexible to the individual.

If we don't get Europe then so be it, we have to be looking at qualifying next year, minimum. If we do, then we have to improve on that, minimum.

Being patient does not automatically mean that you are just wanting to stagnate mid table forever, it means that you are OK with seeing incremental improvements, as long as they are big enough increments.
I agree with what you have said in this post and would like to see incremental progress as I feel that is how we can stabilise ourselves in the long run. My preference this season would be for us to qualify for the Conference League or Europa League since winning one of those competitions seems achievable and would put an end to our trophy drought.

Ending that trophy drought is essential in changing the perceptions surrounding us as a club (see the post earlier in this thread on lack of moments of celebration this century) and would make the club more attractive for incoming players and sponsors. Of course, if we were to qualify for one of those competitions, it should go without saying that winning the competition is far from guaranteed but I would fancy our chances. All you have to do is look at Aston Villa, Notts Forest, Crystal Palace (all semi-finalists this season) as well as Spurs last season and West Ham in 2023 if you need any evidence that we could have a chance in those competitions.

What i do is simply aim to dwell in the past, when we were a force, and await the time we are good enough to distract me from that wallowing.

The football landscape has been manipulated by a few clubs so much, that it's a long, long shot that we'll be allowed to eat at their table.

That doesn't mean, of course, that we shouldn't try. We all want the same thing at the end of the day. Patronising and insulting others of a different opinion seems counter-productive to me tbh. We're all on the same side.

It's absolutely understandable that those wanting better after spending a small fortune are demanding rapid change whilst it's also understandable that ,after years and years of watching a basket case of a club churn through crap managers buying crap players, others are scared about turning an upward trend into a downward spiral again.

For me, if we go into next season with an unbalanced team AGAIN, I'm in the "out" camp. Until then, I'm a 'goon', I suppose.

Sampling success? Would love to sample success but I support Everton regardless. Always will!!!

Yep, that Lamine is a cheat
Nah, you very well know it's not that - I meant the lever pulling, registration shenanigans, money out of nowhere yet nothing deemed wrong because more levers and connections, etc. etc.

Your club is a hilarious cheat who pretends to never be in the wrong and to always be wronged by everyone.

Great academy though, for sure.

I think you have to be ready for a Premier League "off season" like this has been. Arsenal leading the table but have hardly been convincing, plus we gave them two tight games. Liverpool - transition, new signings but it was assumed they would win it again. Tottenham having their worst season despite the pundits predicting they'll be in the top 6.

Chelsea, another one.

There hasn't been a team I've feared this season and think if we had better attacking quality we could be doing a lot better.

Patient to a point. The debate between those that feel Everton should strive for material success every year, and those who point to the last 15 years and the risks of rolling the dice with ambitious managers is a bit redundant for me. It can both be true that we shouldn't accept mediocrity and that we need to accept that we had (have?) broken foundations as recently as 12 months ago.

Key for me is this transfer window and the squad for next season. We are not getting rid of Moyes (nor should we in my opinion) but he and the CEO must put together a team and squad that is both better than this year, and more balanced. This applies across the pitch but clearest example is if we don't get Europe and can't attract the type of right backs in plan A then we must recruit a specialist regardless, it is not acceptable not to do so because we couldn't get a particular player. That seemed to be the message last summer.

In turn this then demands league place improvement next year from the manager and team, and that is fair.

Everything the club under Laporta did to keep the club competitive after the decimation by previous President (Bartomeu) was legal and La Liga tried to close every FFP loophole the club exploited to manage a squad to be competitive, fund a new stadium project, refinance the accrued debt, sell TV rights (25% of their domestic rights for 25 years, with possibility to buy them back as they regained solvency) provided the capital needed to sign players like Lewandowski, Raphinha & Koundé

Now, returned to normalcy with FFP back to 1:1, stadium in last phase of renovation, elite young football squad & coach and positive credit rating which allowed more favorable refinancing terms. Laporta resurrected it from financial malfeasance of previous board. How can that ever be construed as cheating is only for cynics

From doomed to rainbows & unicorns from here on out

No one gives a flying toss about Barcelona on this forum.

Ah so it's not cheating, it's just using all the loopholes, like City and Chelsea, who are fair and just.

Ok mate.

Cheating implies illegal activity, what you are instead doing is letting your bias get the best of you to toss baseless accusations. Lumping in with City who are backed by an Oil state and Chelsea with US private equity speculators when Barça are a member owned club is just as baseless
