What's changed?

I was at a teaching conference today (im a teacher) and was chatting to the guest speaker who happened to be an Everton fan. I was saying about how i have "Nil Satis Nisi Optimum" above my board and he said he has the same (weird).

Anyway, we were talking about life at Everton and he posed an interesting question.

"What has made David Moyes sign?"

We know he has been thinking about it for a year or so, taken advice (if you listen to media) from Bobby Robson and we all know there were some doubts in his mind. So what has changed to make him commit for another 5 years?

I don't think that it is the wages, many clubs would have offered him the same/more given the chance but i think there is an underlying promise? Money? Takeover?

What does everyone else think?

If we're gonna speculate, I'm going to guess that he appraised his situation and felt that he really couldn't find a better situation to be in and committed for another 5 years.

I'm not saying that he doesn't like where he is. I'm just saying that after viewing the football management landscape, that grass isn't greener elsewhere.

I don't think wages had a lot to do with it as the contract's been on the table for awhile.

whats changed that primary kids get homework these days, and maths is taught completely differently, my daughter is 8 and the homework she gets makes me wonder what the teachers do all day tbh.
in fairness i suppose it takes a while for them to get back into the groove with being off so much though. the other thing is, if we are expected to 'teach' our kids at home after a days work then it's saying that this teaching lark is easy and anyone can do it.

It's hard to argue with any of that.

However, i'd like to think that the guarantee of future funds are in place and therefore became an added incentive to sign.

Speculating as ever , I believe that money figured in why he finally signed. Contrary to what you say, I don't think for one second that he could walk into another job and receive a salary anywhere near as good as the one he's now getting. I'm sure there would be a lot of interested parties should Moyes be "available", but I'm also confident that these would be teams lower down the pecking order than Everton. Hence, that would mean a lower salary, not higher.

Exactly, reckon he has told himself cannot do any better for the moment is stay at EFC. A contract may be signed but these days they are not written in stone.

Im fairly sure he could have got a wage similar to what we are paying him elsewhere. Its a lot of money to us, but im sure another team could have matched his wage.

Why does every1 have to look at the money side? Hes signed cos he got some gaurantees that he would be able to compete, i wish ppl would forget about the amount and embrace the fact that we have a manager in charge that has been with us for over 6 years, done a wonderful job and wishes to continue his hard work.

He could easily have thrown his toys out the pram and said the club doesnt match his ambtion and gone to Newcastle for the same amount of money, its not all about money, money, money with Moyes.

In my eyes the manager should always be the highest paid person at a club, onwards and upwards Davey lad.

Thanks for the personal attack. Thought that people on here talked about Everton and matter around them not the position of people trying to earn a living and trying to educate the youngsters of today.

If thats the case why didnt he just see out his contract untill the end of the season and wait for the merry go round that is end of season sackings? That way all these "better jobs" clubs would have known he was gonna be available and could have approached him in January.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I don't see where it's a personal attack on you Luke.

Reidy was just going off as he said, on a rant. But I don't see anything aimed at you. And I'm guessing you haven't seen how Chico can hijack a thread.

Keep up the good posting though.

(EDIT: Ah sorry, I forgot that in your first post you stated that you were a teacher. Still, I don't think he was seriously having a go at you.)

I think there are only four clubs that are better than us, and none of those would give Moyes a job.

Then there are a few that are our equals: Villa, Spurs and City. I don't think Spurs would employ Moyes in a month of Sundays. They're CL pretenders and, should Ramos go, will be looking to shop at Harrods, not Marks and Spencer.

In other words, when the sackings start, Moyes can only go downwards, to the club's that normally shop at George at Asda.

Moyes is on a cushy number, and he's realised that now (I think).

I will accept that maybe he realises he cant get a BIGGER club, but some ppl are saying that he couldnt go to a club and get his wages matched. I aint having that.
