What will it take for us to be a "big" European team?

Everything-

- New Stadium
- At least 3 years of heavy spending
- A continual quest to improve every aspect of the club to raise our profile and enhance our appeal
- And most importantly, a change of attitude and standards from the ground up - 2nd best is not acceptable, ever. If we don't meet the standards we set, then heads should roll

This can all be done, but the will to do it must be there. It wasn't so long ago that Man City were still in the old 1st division and had the likes of Coppell as manager.

If a meteorite took out London but a bit of it broke off and flattened Manchester,

I mean sure, we'd be 2nd but it still doesn't bear thinking about on account of who'd be Champions,

I agree with your post except the last point.

Are you saying if we don't win the title most seasons and qualify for the champions league we should sack our manager, despite not spending the same levels of money as the elite teams?

It's one thing having ambition, but we should base our expectations on our financial ability to compete otherwise we'd end up sacking good managers because we have delusions of grandeur.

Acting like we're the biggest team in the league is pointless if we don't have the spending power or commercial appeal to compete pound for pound.

It would help if the players and the fans had a bit of confidence and stopped moaning about everything. If you want to be a champion at anything, you must believe you can do it.......[/QUOTEserious levels of delusion going on here, we never have been a big European team, we are unlikely to be one any time soon

Exactly what it took for Man City to be a "big" European team: a new stadium and half a billion Pounds of transfer spending.
Don't think the stadium has anything to do with it really, it is all down to the transfer spend and ridiculous wages.
I wouldn't class City as a big European team anyway.

A greater sense of entitlement and delusion.

More badges, flags, grown men who watch their iPad at the game, and lots of half and half scarves.

Thinking that this year is our year, every year, that we have the best players in the world in their positions, and that Lucas Lieva is a reincarnation of Graeme Souness

I'm really saying that if we go backwards then it's time to ditch the manager.

All successful clubs are absolutely ruthless in this respect. Do you think Klopp/Mourinho/Guardiola will still in be a job within 18 months if they haven't won anything by then?

True, but they get to spend big money. Can't remember the last time an Everton manager had that luxury since the 80's.

All for it if they're taking us backwards but need to be realistic too.
