What will it take for us to be a "big" European team?

Best bet would be a certain 4 Men, a shed with a wielding torch, a black transit van complete with a red stripe and a 5 minute montage. If we can find them, they will come up with something...
If you can't find them, try McGueyver, same deal, less men.

Other than that we just need to be a lot better than we are - ultimately fame follows success and even the A team can't change that.

New stadium brings new sponsorship, new sponsorship brings global attention, global attention brings more fans.

That's off the pitch. New stadium will be massive. Also important to keep EITC type projects available.

On the pitch we need the blend of academy products with the Everton identity (whatever that may be), new players with a winning mentality (rooney etc), better players all around, minimum morgan's level.

Once you have the stadium and the money, you can buy better players to win trophies.

Playing in a more top heavy league, perhaps.

I assume by "big" European team you mean actually being SUCCESSFUL in European play as well.

Juventus is able to qualify so consistently because it seems like no one will ever catch up to them, financially, tactically, etc. (barring a Torino '49 type of situation) They have actually only won the CL twice, not even putting them anywhere near the record title holders, Real Madrid with 6.

Premier League is constantly shifting and you never know who will qualify for Europe. You may have a good idea, but never know 100% obviously with Leicester still in it this season, for example.

There are the occasional sides that qualify on a good one-off season every five or so years, but rarely do you see them past the round of 16.

With all that being said:
  • New stadium ;)
  • Keep our talent :coffee:
  • Keep bringing in that money
  • Buy more talent
  • Set the clocks forward a decade or so

Challenging for the champions league regularly.

Tottenham have been serious title challengers for a few years now but I still don't see them as big until they have consistent successful runs in Europe.

Club value? Big Stadium? Big name players? Titles? History?

Take Juventus as an example,
Biggest team in Italy, but only worth about half the value of the other big teams around Europe.
Highest paid player (Higuain) is only roughly on what we're supposed to be offering Rom.
Stadium capacity 41k.
Pretty consistent champions in Italy.

What is it about Juve? even though they are not the biggest, Europe's elite fear them and often fall to them, only today they beat Barca 3-0. How can that be us? What will it take?

The difference is; the league they operate in. Juventus will get approximately 122m euros (£103m) from winning the Serie A. In the Premier League the winner got £93m last year.
But this is due to change, this year the winner will get £150m and the team that finishes 17th in the premier league will get more than the winners of the Italian League.

This could mean that players in the top leagues in Europe will come flocking to play premier league mid table, or maybe not, given that some players also want to win things and the prestige of playing for a "big club" and champions league football.

For us to be like them we would need to be top 4 consistently, competing in the champions league and get past the last 16 on a regular basis, only then would we be considered as big as Juve

That's a bit of an overstatement. They finished 3rd last season...and will finish a distant 2nd this season. They haven't been close to title challengers.

They've been in Europe a lot, but getting bounced in the round of 32, 16, or even the QF of the Europa League certainly isn't building up a strong 'big European club' resume.

Not trying to minimize what they've accomplished, as they're miles ahead of where we are at the moment. To make that leap into the conversation of being a big European club though, you have to play consistent year on year Champions League football and make deep runs with some consistency. Adding Champions of Europe would help to cement that status.

If Leicester were somehow able to win it this year, it certainly would not make them a big European club though. They'd have to be in the conversation every year. Which we know they won't/can't.

Plain and simple invest in proven quality players which we will not do

Hundreds of millions of pounds spent every season for about 6 years on world class players
