Suntan Bob Elstone came into the Park End car park in his Audi RS5 a bit late last Saturday, waving the plebs out of the way... Kenwright as Chairman for two decades. The goons can’t even install new LED advertising boards properly, let alone build a new stadium and assemble the basics of a football team.

Start there maybe?

Such as ?

Stones, Lukaku & Barkley, the 3 youngsters we were going to build our team around all gone to top 6 clubs we are aspiring to compete with. Instead we have the top 6's rejects, Sneiderlein, Walcott, Rooney, Michael Keane, Lennon...even Siggi you could argue was deemed not good enough by Spurs and we made him our marquee signing

There is no plan.

We need a plan.

If I were in charge (and who wouldn't want that?) I'd say:

How do we want to play? Recruit someone who also believes in that style, ideally a board of Evertonians for whom this is the dream job to be director of football. They will be in overall charge of the club. This will give consistency to the long term approach of the club.

Who coaches in that style? The DoF recruit the coach based on the criteria of a proven ability to coach the style of football we are promoting.

Which of our players can play in that style? Coach alerts the DoF to his opinions on squad and the player needs he has to meet the targets of the board.

Which of the youth team can play in that style? Coach assesses the youth squad. Part of the job description for the coach will be to regularly integrate young players.

Recruit to fill the gaps in order of priority.

Sell those who can't fit in with that style.

Sounds simple but effective
Why can’t our board do this

  • No left back
  • Rooney is our best player, but the manager cant fit him into a formation with Sigurdsson
  • Walsh is a fraud
  • We signed Rooney, even though he didn't fit with our overall transfer plan because Kenwright wanted to "bring him home"
  • chopping and changing style of play and personnel, because of changing the manager mid season
  • we didn't sign a center forward till January (and we need to sign another one)
  • injuries to key player without a like for like replacement (Baines, Coleman, Bolasie)
  • players spitting their dummy out (Mirallas and Schneiderlin)
  • player lacking form (Schneiderlin)

Holgate and Kenny madly gesturing to get Schneiderlin to move into space last weekend against West Brom sealed it for me. He stood there like a stubborn donkey. He doesn’t care.

So while i think selection and tactics has a lot to do with our issues, I think there is some division amongst our team. They aren’t playing as a unit.

It seems there are definitely cliques here. And i think - looking back - that Unsy attempted to break them apart. But Sam has his favorites and it seems Problem Child #1 Schneiderlin is one of his pets. I think until we get a real solid manager in here with a real plan, we’re in for some dysfunctional football on the pitch. Who knows? Maybe Sam will figure it out and play those players who actually communicate and react to each other.

Going back and watching the Sunderland game from earlier this season, you had Klaassen and Sandro and Davies and DCL all finding a flow, moving the ball and finding space, providing outlets for each other. The off-ball movement was great. Lennon too in that. That’s football 101 and we have too many players who don’t care to utilize the space they are given. Or to create the space.
Who was worse, in your opinion? Schneiderlin or Williams?

The incessant playing of the ball in our own half also got on my tits, tbh.

A board with zero ambition above staying in the premier league, getting a stadium built on the cheap then cashing in when the value of their shares are greater. Performance on the football field is irrelevant to them unless relegation looks likely.

I think recruitment since Moyes left has been utterly abysmal.

It wasn't exactly fantastic when he was here, there were some solid ones, don't get me wrong. But he was known as "dithering dave" and often dithered too long and we missed out on a few players, who went elsewhere.
