What Are The Neighbours Up To?

I wish. The more time passes the greater the loathing for them.

Wait until they're on another EC trophy winning tour of the city, you'll soon change your mind.

As for Liverpool getting it right: they've had a great second half of the season but they'll finish 4th and probably trophyless if they face Madrid. Then they'll sell Salah for £200M and invest it and save a bit for any infrastructure improvements (that's what FSG do).

They are literally 90 minutes of football away from crashing back to square one again, as they did when they were beaten in Athens.

Spirit being crushed can make you become indifferent.

its a mad one with them, we start thinking about how were going to "everton" it

they believe theyll win the lot

fans cant help the players and that but our mentality is that were gonna lose etc

In one.

Their massive fanbase doesn't matter one bit to me. I'm sure it's the same case in the rest of the world at it is here in South Wales, the majority of them don't actually support them. They'll just see them on the TV in the pub and say "oh yeah, they're my club". You see a lot of very poor people who have had been given /got a cheap knock off short of theirs they've seen in a charity shop. A lot of their fans only follow them because of their cult sense of "belonging" that they offer. None of them down here actually know when they're playing, what their scores are and have no intention of actually going to watch them. My close family are like that.

No offence, but we could have a fan base that big if the whole media were former everton players bigging up everything we do and not daring to criticise. But I'd hate that, we would just end up with a load of thugs, sociopaths and tourists like them.

Let's look at the current trophies, they've won :
1 champions league
0 Europa leagues
0 premier leagues
0 fa cup wins since it moved from Cardiff
1 league Cup on pens vs the mighty in Cardiff since the move back to Wembley.

Excuse myself whilst I [Poor language removed] myself with envy.

theyve been top 4 most seasons recently, come close to winning the league and have one foot in the CL final

they also play an attractive brand of football have a manager they all like.

cant make out they don't have it better than us at the moment, im not sure where you live like but having to work with the c*nts coming in laughing at how sh*t we are and how great they are doesnt help either

Psychology makes a massive difference, and the truth is that we have a losers mentality and they very much have a winning, almost megalomaniac, mentality. This applies to the fans as much as it does the players, and things won't change until we do.

Hopefully a grand new stadium will make a difference, but turning up for the match and sitting in the absolute silence that has now become commonplace will just see the status quo continue.

Top 4 isn't success though, well it is for them, but I wouldn't celebrate that myself, I'd be happy of the money it brings in only.

Not comparing it to our situation just saying I'm hardly envious of that record. It's rather not have all the disappointments they've had of getting so close and bottling it time after time. It's tougher to take than getting knocked out in the early rounds.

It's about rationalising your hatred. (I wonder if the word hatred come from "hate red"?).

It's the smug, be on the side that's winning, snivelling jumped up pricks who I know who support them that I hate far more so than the club itself. I want their club to lose because of those bellends rather than because of the club itself. Their annoyingness is always compounded by the success of Liverpool, so that's why I don't want them to win.

Of course there's some reds I know that I like and/or respect, in the games where Liverpool win then that's fine, I can't wish them a horrible time.

It's hard having kids growing up, they're still too young to be getting into footy, but I don't want to pass on the hatred that I have. I don't think hatred is healthy. I do have weak moments though, I did tell them that Liverpool are horrible because they break kids toys, so a seed of hatred was there at the age of 2, but I'd rather them just support a club, and think of Liverpool as the way I think of say Arsenal or Chelsea, ie I don't.

There are some good points in this post but:

While Everton slum it with Allardyce, Liverpool have gone out and brought in one of Europe’s elite

I don't think this is a fair comparison. Klopp was appointed in the closed season (I think) and as part of a planned rebooting of their back room staff.

When Everton appointed Allardyce it was mid season after the wheels had come off the Koeman project. The club identified a specific need, for an experienced PL manager who could ensure that things didn't get worse and relegation was avoided.

A better comparison could be Hodgson, another safe pair of hands coach who was never likely to be there for the long term and proved about as popular to the fans.

The challenge now is to get the next appointment right.

Not being funny mate but I almost wet myself with excitement when Sigurdsson scored an equaliser at Anfield in January, I'm not going to pretend I'm not envious that they're in a CL semi final.

I do concede that their supporters unwavering belief certainly helps them on occasion

That being said, it can also sometimes be their undoing, see the 13/14 season where they essentially psyched their team out of the title by being so full on

Really good article this. Deals with some dark issues that I'm sure we've all struggled with at some point in our lives.

I too have softened with my hatred of the RS lately. Don't get me wrong, I want the absolute blerts to lose every game, but not as easy to hate them when they play fantastic football under a likeable manager and we're playing something loosely based on football under one of the most detestable managers in the country.

Unfortunately, they've been on the right track since they appointed Rodgers. We can sneer all we want, but at least their owners had a plan. I don't even need to argue with anyone that the same couldn't be said for ours.
