they weren't in the PL in the first season (92/93) when 42 games were played.
they weren't in seasons 03/04 nor 04/05 and 11/12

So: 3 x 38+1 X 42 = 156 more games we've competed in.

Interestingly (or not), of the teams presently in the PL, (and not counting the 6 clubs that have always been in...i.e. 27 seasons), Newcastle have competed the most (24 seasons), then West Ham (23), then Man City (22) then Soton (20).

Of teams not presently in the PL, only Aston Villa with 24 makes it into that group



NB After Soton on 20, of present PL teams, it's a big drop to Fulham (14) ...although Blackburn (18), Sunderland (16) and Middlesboro (15) have competed more than Fulham.

Unusual for me to be such a trainspotter. It's 5.20 am and I've been up all night concluding and settling tremendously prosaic business affairs...so I was more than a little bored... and in pursuit of distraction lol

Yes but although we haven’t set the world on fire we have enjoyed much better finishes than them. They have mostly been awful.

In the 'top 20' list of teams with 'most PL game losses' , United are 19th (with 158). Blackpool don't appear in the top 20, but in their one season in PL they lost 19.

I read the other day there are 3 teams who have played one season in the top flight, its a good quiz question without giong straight to Google
