Weir???? Coach???

What's his coaching qualifications, does he have any? Just bringing someone in because he's a mate might be good for Moyes' ego but is it good for Everton? We're apparently potless again this summer, but apparently it'll be ok to throw a few hundred thousand pound at Weir.

Tell Rangers to look after him - and tell them to use the Michael Ball money they conned out of Everton a few seasons back to do it with.

How should I know what he is like as a coach or if he has any qualifications. But I imagine he would have picked up a thing or two having been around coaches for so long. Maybe he is coming to us and we are assisting him getting his badges. Who knows??? And again, I think Moyes would be the best judge of people he wants to work for him.

a great servant to the club no doubt but i d hav serious doubts over coachin....not sayin he wouldnt make a good coach but do we always hav to put ourselves into the position of them( coaches players etc) "cutting thier teeth" at everton

can we not think bigger

To be honest i think Weir will make a good coach,he's intelligent,he's been in football years and is bound to have picked up a lot of ideas and methods down the years and most importantly he knows what our club is about. I for one would welcome him back to the club

I kind of feel the same. Look at the set up at United. Phelan has been there and done it. He's Fergie's media representative and a buffer between the boss and the players, much like Colin Harvey was for us or Sammy Lee is across the park. Rene Meulensteen is the brains of the outfit, comparable to Steve Clarke or Carlos Quieroz. Ferguson likes to have a continental member of staff to relate to his multi-national squad and to bring in fresh ideas. Fair enough we're not competing at the pinnacle of European competition and so we don't need to be as well informed on the latest thinking, but how could it hurt to have new ideas? I thought we were supposed to be the great innovators?!

City have an interesting mix of backroom staff including Brian Kidd, David Platt and Atillio Lombardo. Stoke recruited Peter Reid and Gerry Francis to their 'brains trust'. Kevin Bond is the deep thinker at Spurs, whilst Sherwood and Ferdinand work on technique.

As much as I'm sure that Weir is a great personality to have around the training ground, for the players I think it would just be more of the same. They don't need yet another version of Moyes drilling them to press and close the ball. My impression of Steve Round is that he is more of a 'trainer' than a 'coach'. I think he sets the cones out at Finch Farm according to Moyes' instructions rather than developing the players or our style of play too much.

There are some excellent unemployed coaches/managers around including Chris Coleman, Aidy Boothroyd and Ray Wilkins. If we can't afford to go out and buy players, why not bring someone in who will freshen things up and help to give the players a lift? I think that Moyes likes to do things his own way too much for that to happen unfortunately. Even if we brought a former player in such as Tony Cottee as a part-time striker coach, it might give us a bit more of an edge.

Need a foreign coach in at some level IMO...whether its assistant manager or with the kids.

We need tactical and technical knowledge rather than hard workers.
