Ha, and all things that are far worse than Rooney and the £20m+ that helped the club rebuild (and we would not have needed to if we had a decent owner).

Wayne Rooney never set any high expectations for future Everton talent.
Rooney was just an exceptional player that most future young prospects would simply not be as good as.
Comparisons and fan expectation do not hold back any of our young prospects - just not being very good does that trick.

I guess that depends on what you hold once in a generation to mean. With regards to this thread, and Rooney, I take it to mean a world class product of the everton fc academy. Which other sides are full of those? Should I ask a brain surgeon? I'm not the only person not to understand the point you're trying to make.
