Rooney was a vastly talented player who lit up our team for a couple of years, scored a bunch of winning goals then pissed off for a huge amount of money that allowed us to completely rebuild our team jumping a massive 13 places in the league and setting us up in midtable/the europa places never to be troubled by relegation since.
It wasn't exactly a disaster was it?
Backhanded indeed.
At first the saviour then alright to see out the door.
HENCE THE TITLE OF THE THREAD !!!!!!!!
Every ''prospect'' since has been compared to him, and we didnt get amazing money for him anyway.
And IIRC Radzinski (boo) got more goals than him as well.
Moyes mentioned expectation in a fan address a few years ago, he didnt take on the possibility of the Everton youth program not churning out Rooney prospect after Rooney prospect.
The question is, did the Rooney saga murky the terrain in which you judged and EXPECTED the following Everton youth possibilities?
