Was there with my Dad and brother - amazing atmosphere, a very special night at Goodison! Closely followed in second place by the West Brom league winning game in 1970 as another amazing Goodison Park under the lights! How good will it be to create that night time atmosphere at BM Dock??

I was sitting in the Bullens that night. Seemed that we stayed for ages after the final whistle but when we were leaving and walking down Goodison Road the noise still coming from inside the ground was incredible. Goodness knows how long it took to clear Goodison that night. Makes me sad sometimes to watch the highlights though. It was a time (and I was young!) when you thought we'd continue to play and win like this forever.

and we could have if it wasn't for the European ban IMO. Already being touted as favourites and with a top seed we would have walked to the semi's without much competition. That ban in my opinion stopped us in our tracks being a dominant force in Europe for many many years.

That wonderful, wonderful night against Bayern, I had a spare ticket and asked a mate, an armchair RS, if he'd care to join me.
He did and we sat at the back of the Upper Bullens, just right of the halfway line.
As others have said, even when we went a goal down nobody, but nobody other than the handful of Germans in the Main Stand, had the slightest doubt that the second half would see Everton turn it around... destiny had long since decided that we were on the road to glory.

And to be fair to my mate Harry, when Tricky Trev planted the third goal into the Gwladys Street goal, he jumped up and cheered his head off as loudly as the rest of us.

What a night, oh what a night !!!!!!!!!

And we all know who put a spanner in the works shortly after. It's an old story, I know, and I don't want to wallow in it, but that Bayern match showed us all a marvellous future that was snatched away. Of course, we might have Evertoned it up anyway. When they toured Australia I had the chance to see them for the only time in my life. Beyond special, so I can only imagine what it was like for those on the Bayern night. Can such things possibly happen again? Wouldn't that be something! To see some of our youngsters strutting their stuff in such a match as this was. To see a captain of Everton hold a European trophy aloft. Make it happen.

I watched the final this morning, and something struck me. I heard some very poignant comments from Brian Moore and Brian Clough. Cloughie was saying what a young team we had, and we could remain a major force for years.
Even more poignantly, Brian Moore was talking about the police playing our fans in the local square in a game.
Still sickens me to this day that we were denied a bash at the European cup.

If you think the Final was rough, take a look at the Replay. The Final it was like an exhibition game compared to the replay.
Thats probably the one i was thinking of Degsy! I seem to recall a top refereee viewed the match and said he would have sent five off and booked everyone else on the pitch lol

It was sickening and Cloughy could see how good a team we had. Like I said the European Cup was like the seeding at Wimbledon and with the ECWC in our pocket we were guaranteed to be in the top 4 seeds minimum. I am not saying we would have won it but we easily could have. What a springboard that would have been for us. We will never know and that is the biggest regret.

I was in The Stretford end every neutral was cheering for Chelsea.
I haven't seen an actual recording of the Replay. But having watched the Battle of Goodison Vs Leeds, were the teams got taken off to cool down...it wasn't far off that
Leeds, Revie, Giles, Bremner, et al common denominator, bad snidey bells to a man.

You went to the 'Battle of Goodison'? Now that is one match I would have loved to witness. I have read all about it and heard goodison was like a bear pit and chucking coins at the Leeds players etc. Think that's why Jack Charlton labelled us as the most vitriol fans and Goodison as one of the most intimidating.

Do you have some memories that you could share?

Talking of commentary, if you get a chance, try and find the original radio commentary.
Everton made an album at the end of that season, with bits of all the big games, and commentary by Clive Tyldsley and Gary Bloom.
I still put it on the turntable when I'm in a good mood with Everton, and Tyldsley's commentary in the Munich game still makes my hairs stand up.

"and you can tell your grandchildren about this night..." listened to that over and over when I was younger. The noise behind him was amazing.

Clive was great that year, got attacked after commentating on the Trevor Steven goal at WHL lol

I was in the Lower Bullens, always thought it was odd Beyern were in the top balcony, the only game I can recall the away fans being in such a odd place!

Newcastle 95 Quarter Finals.

I think I can vaguely remember the Bayern fans in the Park End side of the Top Balc?? But I could be wrong. I was around the halfway line of the Top Balcony but didn't take a great deal of notice of them.
