.....the club don’t get many wrong that they move on. Lundstrum and Duffy both went down the leagues and found a route back, good luck to them but decisions have to be made at Everton, we can only keep the very special youngsters.

Thought Jeffers was going to be a player. Sold to Arsenal. End of story

....like Rodwell, turned out to be a good bit of business for us.

I always thought Rodwell was a ‘safe’ player, almost always played the way he was facing and rarely had the ability to take the ball on the spin like Osman. I think Jeffers accepted the big move but struggled going down south and with the talent Arsenal had.

There is a lot of talk about Rooney being the stand out exception to the argument here.
However, for all he won, and he DID win everything, and for the absolute fact that his career certainly was not wasted, there is still the idea that he never actually reached his full potential.

Can see what you mean the Rooney we had and the Rooney who made his debut and got a hat trick for utd I thought he would go on to be the best in the world he still had a great career thou

Who says they were any good to begin with? The media saying they’re highly rated doesn’t mean they actually are. I saw Anichebe at youth level and he was crap. Jack Rodwell played a fair few games and was solid nothing more or nothing less and we got an absolutely massive fee for him at the time which was just great business. Baxter was a bad egg and was moved on because of that.

It takes a lot to go right for the right player at the right time for someone to absolutely make it a la Rooney and they just didn’t have the work ethic, talent or the circumstances.

I thought Fergie pissed him about at Left Half position for 3 or 4 years and likewise successive England managers, he had to play second fiddle to
Gerard & Lampard for too long, they were Prem league players but never World Class. I believe him to be just behind Gazza for the greatest ever
England players.

Didn't Rodwell play centre-half for most of his time at youth level? I don't ever remember him playing there for the first team, but I suspect he would have been a better defender than midfielder.
I think a big problem for a lot of our youngsters coming through was that they came into poor teams, with no-one to guide them on the pitch and too much pressure in games. I always felt this was the case with Cadamarteri, who broke into our team around the time Owen started playing for Liverpool. Barkley wasn't bright enough, but suffered from a lack of good coaching, I think, from all his managers while he was here. I'd have liked to see him under Ancelotti. Jeffers was one who seemed to have the personality for the first team and, unlike Cadamarteri, he benefitted from being alongside Kevin Campbell and having someone like Don Hutchison with him. But he left too early. I'll always feel Rooney left too early, also. You can't argue against the career he had but, for me, Ferguson turned him into a world class ordinary player. He drained the mercury from him.

because most people are glad he’s bombed.
And everyone on here predicted that would happen, but now hes got his retirement money I'm sure he and his agent are extremely happy.Especially sitting on ur backside every game.Just to add everybody on here said he was thick.

Happens at every club. We probably have some players chances they wouldn’t have had anywhere else because in the Moyes period we had to. The honest truth is that the likes of Baxter Vaughan Anichebe probably wouldn’t have got a chance at prem level anywhere else. Rodwell just had physical attributes beyond his year group and was blessed with pace power and a bit of composure. Once he got to the top level though his complete lack of football brain got found out.

little harsh on Rodwell.Out of all the youth we have had provided he is probably the one who’s technique was never at fault. His biggest issue has been injuries and probably getting an ego when going to City.

had he come through under a more offensive manager. He would have probably been able to utilise his pace and power as a dominant midfielder had he stayed fit.
